The world woyls be a better place if we did not try to separate people by race, geoups and others. If humanity wants to do better, they need to stop judging each other too much and take a look in the mirror and look at themselves in the mirror. We should show compassion for one another. We should accept the other persons choices whether they agree or not. It would be better if we were not fake friends to get what we want and then do not talk to that person anymore unless you are getting a job.

Culture should be emphasized over religion at a very young age

I think it would be better to emphasize on culture than religion. But there aren't many examples for it. Socialism in the soviet union was a good example. Something like that which is based on a political, social and individualistic cultural philosophy I believe could become a better uniting factor than religion.

Children should be taught (kinda brainwashed) in liberal democracy, secularism and all that Jazz at a very young age. Ethics, human rights, empathy with law should be taught at school. Of course all of these are parts of the culture.

can't think of any suggestion that I can't come up with some reason why it wouldn't work (mostly because people are all assholes and I object to forcing people to do shit)

in other words, we're doomed :sadbanana:

I have observed that people get along better with people who are different then them if they spend a lot of time with them, such as at work... in most scenarios. unless they just use any mistake or quirk that different people have to reconfirm their racist worldviews

yeah, we're doomed

This thread reminds me of a conversation I've had countless times with a religious friend:
He used to always say "I believe everything's for good" (Literal translation), which more accurately means "You have to trust that behind everything that happens god has good intentions". When pushed, he'd stand by it and apply it to everything - mutual friends who have died in wars, his own sister's young death in a car accident, even global tragedies and catastrophes, it all must be "Backed up by god's good intentions", and we'd always end up with me asking him "Good for who?"

I think that's kind of applicable here: A better place for who?

Getting rid of war, on the other hand, seems to me far more difficult. It demands at least one, and probably two, psychological developments radical enough to be called breakthroughs, and our progress in developing and utilizing the psychological sciences has so far been disappointing.

The really necessary advance would involve some method of eliminating the almost universal human attitude that one's own rights are as important as anyone else's.

Not more important. As important.

I am not saying that people shouldn't feel that way, or don't have a right to feel that way, or that it's immoral or even unreasonably selfish. I simply say that unless and until it changes, conflicts of interest will continue to lead to violence in the name of right, freedom, and The People. What specific situation starts things off — the population of a landlocked country believing that it has the right to a seaport of its own, women believing that they have the same rights as men, or junkies believing that they have a right to a fix at public expense — is trivial beside the general principle that my right is as important as yours. If a way were actually discovered to alter this bit of human nature there would be screams against the dangers of psychological research; and if a government or some other group tried to apply the techniques, plenty of people (including me) would fight for the right to their own minds.

Please note that death, destruction, and mayhem are not primary aims of war. They may be secondary ones, as when a cannibal tribe attacks its neighbors for meat, but more usually they are just inconvenient by-products. The aim and end of war is to impose one's will on an opponent.

Unfortunately, imposing one's will on another includes the situation in which your will is merely that he not impose his on you.

Put me in charge and give me control over the entire nuclear arsenal. I'll clean up this mess.

I'd encourage racial mixing, and other forms of mixed coupling, as well. It seems like a good way to reduce conflicts. How the hell can racism exist if there are so many people who are neither one thing, nor another thing? You want to create a world that respects diversity more, that's the way to do that, IMO. When people try and keep the groups discrete and separate is where the problems arise.

The most direct, and meaningful action I think can be taken to begin solving most of American democracy's problems is to implement public funding of elections with money to be assigned to candidates based on being able to obtain a measurable amount of voters in an average of the top three polls. No outside funding, no personal funding. Let the idea's and the person speak louder than the dollar. Also returning control of televised public debate to a non profit like the league of women voters instead of a cabal of partisans. Alot of the other problems with influence, and corruption comes from the fact that the system is designed to allow, and even practically encourage quid pro quo.

Spin the world backwards in time, like Superman, kill the snake in the Garden of Eden with a hoe, leave Adam and Eve with a boombox and a Pet Sounds cassette tape.
