Do you think that it is more important to teach individuals to change themselves and to adapt individually to their circumstances and the world they find themselves in or to teach them to restructure their world and adapt collectively?

Lark, doesn't it depend on the person's natural coping mechanisms and what areas they are weak in (as to what they need to become more well-rounded), as well as the particulars of the situation at hand?

Sometimes it is better to adapt oneself, to go with the flow and not create a disturbance.
Sometimes it is better to change the environment, to get a fresh start with a more correct foundation.

I am not sure why there would ever be a blanket answer to this question.

Are we talking individuality versus collectivity? Collectivity is important but Individuality is slightly more important. Can't save others if ya can't save ya self.

Being able to do both would be advantageous to such a degree that I could not condone teaching solely one or the other.

Considering the question in a general sense with a perhaps atypical or average individual, ie not something who especially needs to develop copeing skills for everyday life, which is more important to change yourself or change your society/social structures, such as the economy, in the short time afforded you to do it in?

NB I'm not saying that either approach is exclusive either but in my experience people either err more on the one side or the other.
