Do you have a personal philosophy? Follow a classic or modern philosopher? Is it something you've worked out consciously or something you dont particularly reflect on but works well for you? Is it something which influences your decision making in the minor or major or is it an after thought if you're reflecting or recalling things after the fact or event?

I take inspiration from a broad array of philosophers, and mold what I've learned into my own personal philosophy.

My philosophy is all about understanding as much as I can in this life, without sacrificing integrity. (ie. have to abide by social standards, work, and other distractions.)

make sure to keep an upload/download ratio of 1/1 unless it's porn or a mainstream/blockbuster.
allocate constant upload slots for that one torrent about integral theory.
avoid leaving the house whenever possible.

My philosophy amounts to laughter and ignorance.

Some philosophers spend their whole lives thinking, only to discover that laughter and ignorance is the way to go. You sir, are ahead of the curve.

Actually, the philosophers at least made a serious attempt. As one of my inspirational philosophers once said. It is better to travel well than to arrive.

heh thanks.. I need them to laugh though (especially at myself!), so they should keep on doing what they're doing.

That entirely depends upon the nature of the journey, length of the journey, and nature of the place to which you are arriving. A journey of laughter and blissful ignorance seems a rather pleasant one to me. In fact, I would venture to guess that when one finds his "place" in life, he is perhaps almost always happier than when he is struggling to find it. Granted, a place can be dynamic, and be full of new adventure, but the comfort that comes with an understanding of the world that is in alignment with one's own nature is a very delightful thing indeed.

It is better to travel well than to arrive. = Fluff

What do you see. Not with faith-but with the deepest and most still part of you.
What has experience shown you. What does your heart/mind concede on?
What is true? With each moment you are infinite and being pulled toward your highest potential. Do not resist. Experience it.

Socrates and Inspirational Philosophers

Do you have a personal philosophy? Follow a classic or modern philosopher? Is it something you've worked out consciously or something you dont particularly reflect on but works well for you? Is it something which influences your decision making in the minor or major or is it an after thought if you're reflecting or recalling things after the fact or event?

Inspirational philosophy is the kind of philosophy you have when you are not having any philosophy.

For an inspirational philosopher is a guru.

Epistemology though is interesting.

For Epistemology is ways of seeing.

We start off with one way of seeing and if we are lucky and meet an epistemologist, we are shown another way of seeing.

And the second way of seeing does not replace the first, and so we are left with two ways of seeing. And if we can see in two ways, a third beckons.

However if we have been damaged and are damaging, it is likely we suffer from anxiety, depression and social exclusion. So it is natural for us to look for relief.

And there are many who can see us coming, from gurus to psychologists, from drug dealers to psychiatrists, from sex addicts to exercise addicts, from Oprah to the Military, from astrologers to Scientologists, from inspirational philosophers to motivational speakers.

All can see us coming. And all are ready to take advantage of our vulnerability.

And actual philosopher won't be able to help us. An actual philosopher won't even try.

An actual philosopher will undermine our beliefs and our very way of seeing.

Of course Socrates was an actual philosopher who so disturbed the good citizens of Athens that they put him to death.

And no inspirational philosopher will run this risk, they are usually content with the contents of our pocket books.

Still, an inspirational philosopher may provide comfort in a comfortless world - but not philosophy.

It changes from time to time, but my personal philosophy is mostly averaging around maintaining a rational equilibrium. Life/the Universe is constantly seeking a moving equilibrium.

Really, the question should be not, "What is your philosophy", but what beautiful lies do we tell ourselves to make us feel better.

You say you would enjoy a journey of ignorance, and you are an INTP? *gasp*! :newwink:

Ignorance may be bliss, but what meaning is there in an ignorant life? It has no value whatsoever. Ignorant happiness doesn't equal true happiness in my mind. I'd rather live a troubled life that holds meaning to me, than a ignorant life in which I know no better than to be happy.

Until proven otherwise, lies to some may not be lies to others. From philosophy all ideas are born. Most are crap, some are great.

The Pol Pot of English

From philosophy all ideas are born. Most are crap, some are great.

The History of Ideas does tell us that all ideas are born, they live and they die. And not only are they born, they are born into families of ideas.

So to take an idea at face value is as silly as taking me at face value.

And in the same way, to think of an idea as great or not is one dimensional, whereas ideas live in a multidimensional, historical universe.

Just as the words of English live in a multidimensional, historical world and ring like a peal of bells.

Unfortunately Noah Webster the great, revolutionary lexicographer from the USA, tried to tie the tongue of English by abolishing the historical dimension.

Noah Webster was the revolutionary Pol Pot of English.

But fortunately English and ideas remain free as history lives every time we open our mouths and our minds.

I know that you're addressing Johnnyboy there, but since he was originally addressing me, I figure I'll jump in here for a sec. If you're just fearful for yourself of not having a life of "value" if you didn't study philosophy, that's fine - but you seem to be speaking like your viewpoint is definitive.

Anyhow, if it needs to be explained, when I say laughter and ignorance, I'm simply saying I embrace Stoicism and Taoism a little in my life. I spent enough time reading and juggling things in my head like other "philosophically curious" individuals. Just because I don't now doesn't mean "I don't know better" or anything like that. Nuff said though. Not here to give anyone a biography.

My point was that life is what you, as an individual, make of it. The problem I have with ignorance is bliss. Is that the ignorant, wouldn't be aware of themselves being blissfully ignorant. And on the other side. You can't unknow what you know and become more ignorant. So the whole idea of ignorance is a futile perspective.

But it's to the individual to fill in their lives as they see fit. There's nothing definitive about it in general. But my view -is- definitive when it comes to myself.

My Philosophy is to follow the KISS principle. Religion's too complicated, and therefore violates the common sense litmus test.

Just like quantum mechanics which is too complicated and violates the common sense litmus test.

Why even Albert Einstein said, "God doesn't play dice".
