Ridiculous allegation against Trump: everyone loses it. Funny how truth doesn't make it in the news very often - not like I actually support Trump or anything.

The prospect of spiritual warfare, and the battle against evil sounds exciting. You should vote for me next presidential election.

Why are you all bullying me? :(
Political discussions here have a long history of being highly charged. The social norm is a very different sort of communication than when discussing other topics. There isn't a sense of people each being in their own corner with a view to be left alone, but a more integrated assumption to aggressively go after the topics. These topics have been discussed at length here for many years between the most aggressive posters. I don't really discuss any politics here at all. I wouldn't think of it as bullying 'you' because I doubt people are thinking about you specifically, but more the topic and tearing into it abstractly. It's like you are carrying a backpack full of stuff that everyone wants to attack.

Seconded. I liked magpie. Nothing personal against her or her dupe account.

^Not sure how to react to that comment.

I'd also say that political discussion here are the domain of Te bulldozing with Ti thrown in for logical discrepancies, semantic arguments, and snark. No other functions allowed.

I dont think a lot of the discussions are what I'd think of as politics even, there's a hell of a lot of internet pop culture, which has pseudo-political streaks, usually the extremes of pop opinion or odd or unusual opinion, bohemian or bigoted.

As a result it draws trolls, encourages trolling and games playing, plus you get a lot of people doing their bit for their cause with shit posting or some version of it.

The creation of dupe accounts, which will post contradictory opinion, shift their stance, often within a single thread, or pose as one opinion, behave disrespectfully and despicably in the hope of alienating people from that opinion, all of that has started to trend within online "politics" and most of its a by product of some "idea of the month" from some anonymous source which a lot of easily lead types, young and old but a lot of them pretty adolescent, have subscribed to.

I'm sure the average American Christian thinks that if a politician claims to be Christian, then they're working for God and not the devil.

lol Not disagreeing with you, just laughing.

We have to turn inwards. Enter the siege perilous-- and wrestle. It's not those grotesque, tired institutions of heaven and hell that are the problem-- it's the devils we know.

That's nothing new. I'm old enough to have seen this happen with every president since the Clinton years--and of course it's been going on far longer, but these are just the Presidents I really followed in my lifetime. Wild allegation against Clinton, next thing you know the right is all over it calling him a rapist based on little more than allegations. Same thing with Bush II, people jumping all over him and equating him to Hitler. Same thing with Obama, wild conspiracy theory appears that he's not a true-born citizen and people are on about how he's really working for al Qaeda or some other ridiculous conspiracy theory due to having a funny sounding name and being brown.

I'm not saying some allegations or criticisms are not true or correct, just that people jump on them without checking the facts themselves. Because they are already waiting for an excuse to say "sEe I tOlD yOu He'S [insert your choice of Hitler, a Socialist, a Racist, a Rapist, et al]!!!"

Granted, it's gotten worse because instead of 3 or 4 networks and a handful of newspapers, we have multiple 24 hour "news" channels reporting on hearsay between pundit shouting matches, and a plethora of online "journalism" outlets shilling for the left and right and ignoring uncomfortable truths and facts when they misalign with their preferred narratives.
