Empathy Quotient

Empathy as a concept has come up several times recently in my personal life, and I have seen it come on the forums as well. As a result, I found a test to measure ones empathy. I can't say how reliable or accurate it is, but it seems fairly sound based on what I know. Maybe this could lead to some interesting discussions as well.

Your Empathy Quotient score was 42 out of a possible 80.
Scores above 30 are generally not indicitive of an Autism Spectrum disorder.

Higher scores indicate greater levels of empathy.

-----------------------

The past few years have illuminated to me that overall I have little natural empathy. The rest and most of it is effectively synthetic. I will perform thought experiments based on a library of things I have learned since I was little to create empathy and act the part, but I will feel almost nothing while doing so. Usuaully it's cake, but if it goes completely against what I'd natively want to do then it's a drain. The concept of feeling someone elses pain is an alien concept to me and one I never understood as a child. Only extreme things (i.e. mutilation) set it off under specific circumstances.

For me empathy is on a switch that I can turn on and off at will. My native empathy is also rather illogical in my experience so by default I will suppress it.

I'm actually great in social situations.

I'm much more curmudgeonly here for reasons of ideological principle.

I've gained empathy as I've aged. Life treating me like shit a little bit has softened my edges.

I used to feed ants to antlions (the ones who build the funnel traps in sand) as a kid to see what would happen and study the antlions.

I feel like this test is biased against introverts. And people with social anxiety.

Too many questions seemed EF oriented.

i think it is interesting that my score is changed based on action and reaction in addition to perception... also, why should planning relate to empathy?

Your Empathy Quotient score was 28 out of a possible 80.

Scores of 30 or less indicate a lack of empathy common in people with Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome.
