Your personality type: Strategist (VDI-C)

vdi-c.png

Highly intelligent, unconventional, and quite rare, Strategists often acquire titles like “bookworm” and “geek”. To the extent that Strategists care about such names (they don’t), they wear the underlying ideas, that they are contemplative, logical people, with pride. By the time Strategists reach adulthood, the intellectual development they’ve cultivated since childhood puts them well ahead of their peers in terms of knowledge and independent thinking.

Whatever they choose to apply this intellect to, it’s always broken down into systems. Strategists strip away the aesthetic layers, from programming languages and pianos alike, and seek out the underlying laws of their function. These laws are made to be remade, which is what really drives Strategists. Whether this is innovation or controversy is the subject of some debate.

If that debate is conducted with the backing of bland truisms, shaky reasoning, titles, and social status, Strategists are unlikely to be impressed. Knowledge and effectiveness are the kings on Strategists’ board, and if they know their subject well, and often they do (and they know it), they pursue their points relentlessly. Either something is correct or it’s not – there is no middle ground.

Strategists aren’t thoughtlessly stubborn though. They don’t mind being proven wrong – in fact they respect those who can give them a good run for their money – but it must be done with clear arguments, calmly and thoughtfully presented and defended. Strategists are perfectly capable of admitting they don’t know the answers to specific problems, but they also expect that of others.

The hardest part about this near-obsessive focus on rational thought is that it often, ironically, fails to account for reality. Sometimes people make decisions based on emotions or pleasure. While perfectly natural, these motivations can easily scatter well-laid plans. It takes extraordinary circumstances to shake Strategists’ stability, but if anything can, it’s the perceived incompetence of others.

Unfortunately their stoicism and intellect tend to attract those looking for direction and support, often the very types who struggle with the visionary ambition Strategists demand. Clinginess and dependence are unwelcome to fiercely independent Strategists, who have little need for such things themselves.

Even Strategists’ closest friends are unlikely to find a shoulder to cry on. Strategists are especially uncomfortable with emotional outpourings, and they’ll likely just give a list of logical solutions to such predicaments. These emotional limitations have their drawbacks, especially in family life. Strategists take particular joy in improving things, building more efficient systems and more effective solutions, and training the skills and knowledge necessary to implement them. But Strategists’ desire to improve things is accompanied by an unyielding, cold-blooded rationality that dominates their relationships.

Strategists often take their own emotional stability for granted, assuming everyone else shares it, or at least ought to, while ignoring immensely powerful virtues like kindness, empathy, and compromise. While playing the chess game of life, Strategists may find that if they carelessly throw away the unique skills of the other 31 personality types, even the ones they just see as pawns, that they can be left unable to defend the king.

YOUR PERSONALITY TYPE: EXECUTIVE (RDE-C)

rde-c.png

Executives are stalwart people who depend on rationality – as long as it’s in the context of fixed protocols and traditions. While they appreciate the occasional need for a new vision or a different way of doing things, Executives are rarely comfortable advancing in an unfamiliar direction. They thrive on creating or preserving order and like things to be predictable and certain. For this type, there is little tolerance for wandering off the beaten path. They work hard and are firmly reliable in all aspects of their lives.

With their attention to detail, hard work and responsible nature, Executives often work themselves into management or other leadership positions at work. Government officials often come from this type. Executives’ leadership style is practical, and chiefly depends on how things have worked in the past. When in a leadership position, these hardworking and dedicated people lead by example, both their own and the examples of those who came before them, as much as by any other method.

Executives’ “take charge and get it done” attitude often proves contagious. It’s important to people with this personality type that they control their outer world, and being in charge satisfies this need. However, they do need to take care not to become too rigid, and to learn to appreciate alternative styles of thinking and contributing.

Executives at home are just as focused on order and time-honored ways doing things as they are elsewhere. They keep stable, organized, secure, even regimented households. Chores are to be completed, bills are to be paid on time and money is to be managed effectively. They are the pillars of their communities with well-kept yards and civic involvement with organizations, politics or religious groups, at least to some degree. While not all Executives are conservative, there is a high correlation between their personality traits and conservative stances.

Executives are not always in touch with their feelings or the feelings of others, and they can be a little emotionally distant from their spouses and children. This shouldn’t be mistaken for not feeling deeply. It’s not an absence of feelings, just a matter of access to them and expression of them.

Along those lines, Executives often display a blunt communication style. They are people of few words, and sometimes those words can come across as harsh, or even bordering on cruel or hostile. What others see as caustic, Executives see as honest and straightforward – and it is likely an honest and accurate reflection of their thoughts and beliefs.

People with this personality type are confident in what they believe, and their conviction can trump diplomacy in conversations or presentations. Sometimes Executives process information by speaking it out loud and unfiltered, often leaving others thinking they have settled on an idea or an opinion before they have. This kind of miscommunication can be problematic to people who are eager to please them.

Executives have to be careful to balance their natural assertiveness with a little sensitivity to prevent it from becoming aggressiveness. It can be difficult to lead, live with or work with people who feel constantly offended or wary. Balancing out their rational approach by boosting their emotional intelligence can help make things run smoother. This is hard work, but that’s never been something these types shy away from. Executives may do well to remember the old adage: “It’s easier to catch bees with honey than with vinegar.”

Per Yaru's key in the OP, it is one of the two ESTJ options. I do object to some of it, but I think the parts that I object to are fairly common ESTJ description tropes that I have always objected to.

I liked this part a lot, though. Thought it was lovely as well as even-handed and fair:

Oh, I agree. It's not 100 percent, because it varies from person to person in each type. And the quote you chose, I know it's true. My aunt is a strong ESTJ and she cares very deeply for people. She tries to show them in pragmatic ways but they often misinterpret her help and she tries to give them practical advice and they think she's just being harsh. But I KNOW her and she is really a very unselfish and kind person. Our school counselor is also an ESTJ and the same holds true for her.

I think I see a pattern.

Creators~Reformers and Advocates are your INFJs while Strategists and Researchers are your INTJs
Seekers----Mediators and Peace Makers = INFPs while Engineers and Scientists = INTPs and so on and so forth. Each one of these groups has two categories for each of the MBTI types.
That's what I got.

Did you try to read the RDE P description and see if it fits you?
That's what they say about the C, P difference:

Challenging individuals are rational, assertive and resistant to pressure.

Perfecting individuals are meticulous, objective and success-driven.

But I don't see how one can exclude the other.

I just read the other description, and yes, they seem like they could be describing the same person. The only real difference I saw was that one was more action-oriented and one was more nitpicky-perfectionism-oriented. Neither seemed to have much creativity or humor to speak of. I'm not sure which one I'd be.

The description sounds mostly like ISTP, but with some Te qualities thrown in there.
