Overview
Designers are the most creative of all Types, even when compared to the other five Creator Types.
They have an incredible ability to think divergently and will ponder countless ideas throughout
the day. Designers are able to see things as concrete or physical realities. They fashion, invent, and
arrange conceptual forms into physical and practical designs. They work across a wide variety of
mediums, platforms, and industries, allowing other people to see reality through dramatically new
perspectives.
Designers have an exceptional use of imagination. Many Designers would agree with Einstein that
imagination is more important than knowledge. They may be found sitting in their favorite place
pondering new ideas rather than focusing on present-day realities. However, many of them find
jobs or opportunities where they are tasked with making their ideas into something that others can
experience. They are almost always highly visual thinkers but can be strategic thinkers as well. Many
Designers have good tactile skills and often become painters, sculptors, and craftspeople. Some of
them are able to use their highly developed intuition to create new worlds for us to experience in the
fields of art, media, technology, science, medicine, and business.
Positive Attributes
Most extremely creative people happen to be Designers. It makes sense since they are the Reflective
Builders of the Creator Tribe. Their imaginations and artistic abilities know no bounds. Most
Designers have high forms of intelligence in a number of different areas. Their ingenious minds
invent new and clever ways of doing things. Many of them have strong visual-spatial and strategic
intelligence, and some of them think in very abstract ways. Some Designers also have exceptional
quantitative abilities, although all Designers are truly brilliant when they express themselves through
their own creative outlet. Their creations are novel, stimulating, innovative, and inspiring. Their
compelling work is appreciated by those of all Types and Classes.
Many Designers, especially those with a high emotional quotient (EQ), can be extremely empathetic
individuals. They are in tune with their personal feelings and the emotions of others. These feelings
often fuel their profound and emotionally-stirring creations. Designers let their hearts work in
tandem with their minds, using intuition and abstract thinking. As a result, their work can be deeply
thoughtful, purposeful, intelligent, and profound, as well as creative. They bring beautiful and elegant
ideas to life both visually and conceptually. Designers usually appreciate nature and draw inspiration
from its beauty. They also have the ability to see the beauty within themselves. These unique abilities
fuel their work and creative processes. Designers are often intuitive, compassionate, and sensitive
individuals. These traits allow them to be extremely perceptive of others and life in general. Much of
their output contains profound messages of wisdom and love.
Negative Traits
Designers’ creative abilities may prevent them from being practical, rational individuals. Like some
other Reflective Types, they spend much of their time inside their own heads. This can disconnect
them from other people, even in social settings. Their unique focus and ability may prevent them from
managing day-to-day aspects of their lives. Some of them struggle to be disciplined or organized.
While this may not actually be the case, since Designers know exactly what their priorities are and
how to achieve them, channeling all their energy into their work may lead other people to think they
have unbalanced lives. Many Designers have unusual sleep schedules, often fueled by their desire to
work when they are creative. While some Designers have a schedule, many like to work when they
feel inspired. Designers have the ability to reinvent themselves, an extremely positive trait. However,
when Designers make major changes to their life goals or their fundamental worldviews, it can
confuse others or cause complications with their relationships.
Designers often look inside themselves to find answers. Some of them are obsessed with trying to be
the most authentic version of themselves. One of their greatest desires is to be unique and to stand
out in a world of fake people and copycats. During times of melancholy, they might question their
true value. They may wonder what the world would be like without them and fear that they have no
real significance or value. They might even be envious of those who have been successful, especially
other artists who have made a name for themselves. Designers might be insecure from time to time,
which may lead them to have a faulty vision of themselves. Some Designers can’t see how others
truly see them and may worry that others think they are eccentric. This is a steep price to pay for
being a Designer; however, in the end, having the ability to deliver so much beauty to the world is
worth it.
Careers
Almost all of the greatest artists have been Designers. However, Designers don’t have to be traditional
artists. They are in critical demand among a number of technical fields. Some Designers are excellent
programmers and coders. They are critical in the world of web and UX design. Designers are also
needed in industrial design and manufacturing. Many of them are excellent marketers and brand
creators. Some are drawn to the biomedical field. Some become musicians. Many are engineers. They
are probably the most sought-after Type when companies are trying to fill much-needed jobs. They
are able to connect the human experience with technical innovation and as such are instrumental
in charting out the future of society. Whatever their specific skills, every industry that relies on
creativity critically needs Designers. We would not be able to expand as a civilization without their
imaginative expertise.
