    Default The Madmin Blog

Here within will lie the thoughts and decision making process of the MBTIc Madmins laid out in an informal fashion. We will continue to provide updates via standard announcements in this Official Decrees forum, but expect a more candid viewpoint in this thread along with some minor updates.

This thread will remain locked only to ensure that Madmin posts are not lost between questions and comments.

Hey there. It's been an interesting few weeks since we opened, but I'm really digging how the forum is taking off. So far, so good!

Over the past few days we've had some discussions turn personal, and a couple of those have turned downright ugly. Do try to remember that this place is meant to be a civil environment. A bit of conflict can be interesting and I'm often the first to pop the popcorn, but there's a distinction between "conflict" and "mudslinging." There are plenty of places on the web where you can sling mud at each other, and if you'd like to do that, feel free to do it in one of those places.

It may help if you guys would take this opportunity to refresh your familiarity with the forum guidelines, which can be found here. I'm referring specifically to numbers 1 and 2 (and to a lesser degree, 6) under the "Specific Rules" section of the FAQ.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

A new Playground-like forum has been created entitled "The Fluff Zone."

This new forum should be for:

a/ Light hearted and playful threads.
    b/ Conversational threads.
c/ Threads that one feels does not fit another forum or subforum.
c/ And for the moved threads and posts from threads that are serious in nature.

    Enjoy.

    We've added two new channels:

DIY-- a place for discussions of home improvements, gardens & planting, and food & cooking.

Discovery-- a place for discussions of nature, wildlife, and the outdoors.

    Dive in and enjoy!

We've refined the warning system a bit. Formerly, we only used PM warnings in response to offenses, and three of them in a six-month period would result in a ban. Now, we've made a distinction between "warnings" and "infractions" in the FAQ.

We're not actually getting any stricter about stuff--we made this change because the forum software's built-in warning and infraction system allows us to keep better track of things. It also means users can see any warnings and infractions in their own profile. (They're not visible to anyone but the user and the madmins.) It just makes things a bit less ambiguous.

So, here's the deal. We'll use warnings for minor stuff. Warnings are color-coded yellow in the user's profile, and don't add any points. We'll use infractions for more serious offenses. Those are color-coded red in the profile, and they add one point. Three points will result in a ban. Users will still get PMs with both warnings and infractions.

Here's the part of the FAQ that has changed.

Warning and Infraction System: A moderator or admin will issue warnings to members for minor offenses. For repeated or more serious offenses, an infraction may occur. Three infractions in a six-month period will lead to a ban.
It's number 5 in the FAQ if you'd like to see it in context.

Due to the recent influx of threads designed to discover the type of celebrities, musicians, and other famous folk . . . we decided to create a new location to house all threads containing that theme.

By popular demand, we've split The SP/SJ Artsy/Guardhouse into The SP Arthouse and The SJ Guardhouse. Which were actually their original names, but we decided to merge them until there was more traffic at the site. Which is now. So, there you go. Enjoy!

There is a new (well.. "pre-loved") section under MBTI, enneagram, and other personality matrices for links to online personality tests. Several existing threads have been moved in to make it seem homier. Enjoy!

    Check out our new threads!

MBTI Central is looking smashing this evening in a snazzy new style that goes from the PTA brunch to the golf course to the Sadie Hawkins soiree, all without skipping a beat.

(Many thanks to htb for the new style. It looks great!)
