The 7th function & developmental disorders

Ive recently observed that individuals who for some reason havent been raised in a supportive enviornment, will tend to under develop the second function-ie Fi for an ENFP, Ni for an ENTJ. This is very standard over development of the tert function to protect the ego.

However as they hide and protect this secondary function, treating it as a child to be sheltered, they in turn treat the seventh function, the "critical parent" in the beebe model, as a developmental gap so profound as to be almost a learning disability.

1. An enfp with overuse of tert Te, who is diagnosed with aspergers due to how unaware they are of Fe social cues and communication. Consider the pleathora of Fe vs Fi threads.
2. An Entj with overuse of tert Se, who is diagnosed with a visual processing learning disability, as they connot complete tasks that require generalization of knowledge and reapplication, ie Ne
3. An Intp, with overuse of Si, who can tell you every detail of a perfect idea but cannot figure out how to incorporate the perfect into a different problem space-ie Ni

This isnt simply normal development or normal deviance-it is something you might encounter in very extreme situations.

It is fascinating from a jungian perspective as it speaks to the individual hiding from thier own internal "critical parent" as they actually seek to protect themselves from the trama in thier real world. If this is true it would lead to the very intersting problem of correlating learning disorders in tramatized individuals back to the core personality type, and then creation of appropriate treatment paradigms that heal the core issue rather than treat the symptom.

Just to point out, the “critical parent” (Senex) is the 6th place function.

If the ego is ignoring the auxiliary like that and running to the tertiary, then it's clinging on to its dominant attitude (the tertiary being the next one to bear). The 6th place function, being the shadow of the auxiliary, then ends up like a combo of the aux. and dom; it's the auxiliary in the dominant attitude, so yes, that might figure to come up. Empecially, since I've read, the Senex complex gets involved any time an ego becomes too one-sided, which is a big cause of tertiary “loops” like that.

I've noted, that this might also explain why the corresponding function in Socionics is called “Demonstrative“. It's something “parented” to others, though in a more shadowy way than the aux.
