Hi all, I’ve always been rather skeptical of the MBTI percentages that I see online. So a friend and I took a survey over the course of 9 months with a sum of 638 participants, and I figured I’d share the results.
The survey also included Enneagram Type, which I will posted at a later date.
The participants consisted of Students at my school (New Jersey) & my friend’s school (Florida), as well as other various people from day to day life.
These statistics were used as a comparison to see how rare types are portrayed online: Myers Briggs Statistics – Statistic Brain

Here are the results (rounded):
Dominant Perceiving types:

Sensing Dominants:
ESTP - 13% (Significantly more common among men)
ESFP - 9% (Equally common among genders)
ISTJ - 8% (More common among men)
ISFJ - 10% (Significantly more common among women)

Total Dominant Sensors: 40%

Intuitive Dominants:
ENTP - 3% (More common among men)
ENFP - 4% (Equally common among genders)
INTJ - 3% (Slightly more common among men)
INFJ - 2% (More common among women)

Total Dominant Intuitives: 12%
Total Dominant Perceivers: 52%

Dominant Judging types:
Thinking Dominants:
ESTJ - 9% (More common among men)
ENTJ - 1% (Equally common among genders)
ISTP - 5% (Significantly more common among men)
INTP - 2% (More common among men)

Total Dominant Thinkers: 17%

Feeling Dominants:
ESFJ - 11% (More common among women)
ENFJ - 5% (More common among women)
ISFP - 8% (Significantly more common among women)
INFP - 7% (Slightly more common among women)

Total Dominant Feelers: 31%

Total Dominant Judgers: 48%

Notes & Other Findings:
- ESTP (Significantly), INTJ, INFJ, ENFJ, & INFP were more common than portrayed online
- ISTJ, ISFJ, ENFP, ENTJ, INTP, ESFJ, and ISFP were rarer than portrayed online
- ESFP, ENTP, ESTJ, and ISTP were about equal to what is portrayed online
- The most common type was ESTP, followed by ESFJ and then ISFJ
- The rarest type was ENTJ, followed by INTP and INFJ
- The most common temperament was EP
- The rarest temperament was a near tie between IJ (23%) and IP (22%)
- The most common grouping was SJ
- The rarest grouping was NT
- The most common mistype was ISFP as INFP, followed by ESFx as ENFx

- Extraverts were more common than Introverts by 5%
- Sensors were more common than Intuitives by 27%
- Feelers were more common than Thinkers by 6%
- External Perceivers were more common than External Judgers by 1%

Feel free to leave any questions and/or feedback below.

Did you have them take a test for the survey, and if so which one? It was participants of your school? So how did you tie that into their online prescence? Was the survey done online or something?

You also mentioned common mistypes, how did you handle that? Through follow-ups?

  • This Test was used
  • The majority were from the schools, but there were also other participants
  • I didn't mean online presence, I mean stsristics posted online
  • The test was online, yes
  • The mistypes were found through some people having already taken the 16personalities.com test, and getting different results
