I think this is more of a classic as in retro gaming feel. They are mostly cartoony looking characters and what not. That would be an entirely different list, with like GTA, Tomb Raider, Max Payne...etc.

I figured they could also be considered classic since both are characters from franchises nearly 20 years old. That's a long time in video game years.
