Keirsey has already named four temperaments:

SJ: Guardians
SP: Artisans
NT: Rationals
NF: Idealists

But how would you name these less conventional temperaments?

ST: Realists
SF: Sentimentalists
NJ: Visionaries
NP: Imaginatives
TJ: Organizers
TP: Tacticians
FJ: Affiliators
FP
EJ: Initiators
EP: Enthusiasts
IJ: Stabilizers
IP: Creators
ES
EN
IS
IN: Individualists
ET: Pragmatists
EF: Socials
IT: Researchers
IF: Humantarians

There's also three-letter names as well, from Keirsey:

STJ: Administrators
SFJ: Conservators
STP: Operators
SFP: Entertainers
NTJ: Coordinators
NTP: Engineers
NFJ: Mentors
NFP: Advocates

As well as more unnamed groupings of two (no naming after a function or attitude (E, I, J, P) please):

ESJ
ENJ
ESP
ENP
ISJ
INJ
ISP
INP
ETJ: Leaders
EFJ: Caregivers
ETP
EFP
ITJ: Problem solvers
IFJ: Advisors
ITP: Thinkers
IFP
EST
ENT
ESF
ENF
IST
INT: Iconoclasts
ISF
INF: Dreamers

Good luck! :)

EDIT: added possible names, will update.

I named a bunch of them (or borrowed others' names) on my original super-long page:

E/I + T/F (ETB: "Social image temperaments")

EF: "expressive feelers"
ET: "expressive thinkers"
IF: "deep feelers"
IT: "deep thinkers"

E/I + J/P ("Sociability Temperaments" —George Frisbie writing in JPT)

EP (Bissell: "extraverted eMpiricals" —Jung's "irrationals")
EJ (Bissell: "extraverted Rationals", not to be confused with Keirsey's "Rational")
IP (Bissell: "introverted Rationals")
IJ (Bissell: "introverted eMpiricals")

S/N + T/F (Original Myers "Temperaments"; preferred function combinations)

SF (concrete [role-]informatives)
ST (concrete directives)

S/N + J/P ("Cognitive Temperaments", "Germane Temperaments", "Perceiving attitudes")

NP ([Janet] Germane: true Apollonian)
NJ (Germane: True Promethean)

T/F + J/P ("Myers/McCaulley groups", "Normative Temperaments", "Judging temperament model", "Judging attitudes")

TJ (Bissell: "the most directive")
TP (Bissell: "the most pragmatic")
FJ (Bissell: "the most cooperative")
FP (Bissell: "the most friendly")

Select three letter groups:

ENP abstract Get Things Going
ENJ abstract In Charge
INP abstract Behind the Scenes
INJ abstract Chart the Course
ESF concrete Get Things Going
EST concrete In Charge
ISF concrete Behind the Scenes
IST concrete Chart the Course

I often think of TPs as "the tacticians" and TJs as "the administators" or "the strategists", ITs as "the stoics".

I've already made a thread about the dominant function temperaments

IP - the individualists
EP - the responders
IJ - the stablizers
EJ - the initiators

I might call TJs the organizers, and FJs the affiliators, but what about FPs?

Not all IPs are individualists, and especially not ISTP. Though that might fit for the IN temperament.
EPs as responders? I might call them the energizers or enthusiasts instead.

Also, where's your thread on dominant function temperaments? Keep in mind I'm just looking for succinct, descriptive names, not traits.

Great post. I've read your pages (a long time ago) and have gained some useful information out of them. Thanks for putting that up there.

You're Welcome!

I also should include my alternative names for the E/I+J/P groups, since Personality Page says these are the first letters to develop in a child:

IP - proto-Phlegmatic (or Supine)
EP - proto-Sanguine
IJ - proto-Melancholic
EJ - proto-Choleric

I/E=expressiveness
J/P=responsiveness

Some of these (including all N's) will grow into those temperaments (via the Interaction Style), but some S's will grow into the other temperament sharing I/E, but opposite in directing/informing, when T/F develop (In which case T/F is connected to Interaction Style, and J/P will really be connected with the conative temperament).

More insight, although NT, NF, and ST already have names. I'll add those to ET, EF, IT, and IF.

Eric B, I have visited your site, although the names you have aren't the names I'm looking for. I'm looking for something a little less scientific and structured than what you have.

OK. I knew those weren't really proper "names", but I'm not big on assigning names to type groups, as they can lead to stereotypes or generalizations. That's why I like the old "humour" names. They are (by now) "neutral" enough to not have that problem.

When this thread started, I hadn't been to MBTI class yet, which was the end of that same year. But that time, I forgot about this thread. (I had already been given an MBTI Manual before that, but not sure when).

In any case, the MBTI Manual actually discusses all two-letter combination groups and has names for them:

ST: Practical and matter-of-fact types
SF: Sympathetic and Friendly types
IJ: Decisive Introverts
IP: Adaptable Introverts
EP: Adaptable extraverts
EJ: Decisive extraverts
NP: Adaptable Innovators
NJ: Visionary decision-makers
TJ: Logical decision-maker
TP: Adaptable Thinker
FP: The Gentle Types
FJ: The Benevolent Administrators
IS: Thoughtful Realists
IN: Thoughtful Innovators
ES: Action-oriented Realists
EN: Action-oriented Innovators
ET: Action-oriented Thinkers
EJ: Action-oriented Cooperators
IF: Reflective Harmonizers
IT: Reflective Reasoners

It also briefly mentions and describes Keirsey's temperaments together (under the familiar names) at the end of that section, but still had their own descriptions and names of the groups with the others:
NF: Enthusiastic and Insightful types
NT: Logical and Ingenious types
SJ: Realistic Decision-makers
SP: Adaptable Realists

As for what are called the "mirror temperaments" (N+J/P; S+T/F); I've also since said:

ST: Realists (and others seem to agree)
SF: Aesthete
NP: Dreamer (in the sense of "imagining")
NJ: Visionary
