The Percieving and Judging aspect is the only thing that can be changed naturally?

If there is anything that can be changed naturally imo. A person can't naturally change the way they get information or make decision. But i think if a person tries they can change to a Judging/Percieving naturally.

People use both S/N and T/F to gather information and make decisions respectively. People naturally use all of these functions. The difference is that people tend to prefer one mode over another. A person can switch to the other mode but doing so is likely to be more awkward.

P/J is the most changing dichotomy there is. The difference is too big to allow it to change.

I personally don't think people can change their types at all, they can at most bias towards certain aspects of types they wish to claim for themselves by using their own type to their advantage.

I am as perceiver as one can probably get, ofcourse I can also get things done out of neccesity if I need to, and my actions will be much like that of a judger in those situations, but it's not like I actually use differenct cognative functions to do that. In fact, I achieve it by ignoring my own will and cover it by a fake J cloak.

If there is a dichotomy that is easiest to bridge, it would be the I/E dichotomy. Although one would always end up back where they where.

people use all T N S F, latter functions are unconscious by definition. thats because your first function contradicts the fourth, thus repressing it to unconscious. first is developed first, second is developed to aid the dominant, third is developed from the dialect/conflict between dom and inferior to aid the union of those opposites and to regulate the instincts coming from the unconscious fourth.

and here is couple things that the fourth does:
1) it destroys the certainties and definitions, in that way showing us our limits, especially the limits of our perceptions.

2) it gives the purpose that what earlier seemed as having no purpose. but in order for it to take a specific form and gain the sense of purpose, response to the fourth it required. this is where too large ego(conscious mind) can get in the way, since ego is the opposite of the shadow(unconscious mind, not the 8 function wanna be shadow), which contains the fourth. therefore ego tries to repress the contents of the shadow -> you need to go against the wishes of your ego in order to find a purpose out of the fourth and you wont be able to channel the fourth properly and take it into the concrete life.

by doing these, you are able to conscious of third and fourth functions, even tho you arent able to consciously control them, you are able to consciously control your reactions to them(how well you are able, depends how well you have learned to do so), this means when to stop and when to keep on following it.

An excellent and crystal clear definition.

The only thing I'd like to amend is the bolded. Se's my third function and it can literally be turned on and off like a light switch.

I'll add to my abrupt reply last night: J/P is determined by your dom function, your first function...you're either Pe, Pi, Je, or Ji. That's not going to change because it's literally your "go to" lens through which you see the world, even if you also sort through other functional attitudes to lesser degrees and in various situations.

Even if you don't like function theory and go by the four dichotomies, you'd pretty much have to be very controlling over a P or drug a J to get them to be the other type. Neither way is healthy, natural, or a happy thing for the P or the J. People can try to be more J or more P, but people will feel most comfortable in their preferred attitude, and may become very stressed out and unhappy if trying to be the other way for too long.

It happened to me. I tried to be more J. Fail. Burn-out. Ugh.

Alright...

I'm ENFP, Ne, Fi, Te, Si. If I became ENFJ I'd be Fe, Ni, Se, Ti. TOTALLY FREAKIN' DIFFERENT. One letter changes everything.

they have made quite alot of studies about how much personality changes using big 5. the only scale they found that can change quite dramatically(other scales only had pretty small variation in them over time, even after intense psychotherapy and dramatic life changes) was neuroticism. from big 5 scales, its the only scale that doesent correlate with MBTI scales..
