I'd like you to answer questions from 2 set of questions.. and hopefully discuss, not just answer. I just made this up.

On a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 = not at all, 3 = somewhat, 5 = yes, absolutely

Sense of purpose

A)
-I feel there is a clear purpose for my life
-Most of everything I do really means something to me
-Everything in life is ultimately insignificant
-I have a lot of important stuff to do
-A lot of exciting stuff happens to me all the time
-I can really make a difference
-I need to know that what I do really matters

Psychological background questions, chosen from http://similarminds.com/cgi-bin/eysenck.pl

B)
-I would rather play by the rules
-I act provocatively
-I like being in high energy environments
-I frequently worry
-I come up with good solutions
-I enjoy social gatherings

There's two theories behind surveys like this. One is, don't tell what you're measuring, so it doesn't affect the outcome. Other is, tell what you are measuring, so you can get discussion. Well, I like discussion.

I was wondering the other day that nervous people seem to place a great deal of meaning for seemingly mundane events. I wanted to know if it also tells of something in the big picture. Then, there's also the factor of psychoticism, or how unconventional/rebellious/artsy someone is. It seems as if high psychoticism brings a high sense of irregularity within the world, leading to perception that things don't matter. I don't know, I'm just hypothesizing based on observation. Last, it seems as if extraverted people cared more about most of the stuff, especially the big stuff, and were more involved with the world. Otoh, there's similar argument for the introverted. So, I don't really know how the 3 factors play out with the sense of meaning and sense of purpose.

-Everything in life is ultimately insignificant
2- I'm taking on faith that there is some ultimate higher meaning in life. Generally, I feel that there is a significance to things even if we don't know the significance yet.

-I have a lot of important stuff to do
3- What do you mean by important? There's alot of stuff I want to do that's important to me personally but I'm not sure its so important in a larger global sense.

-A lot of exciting stuff happens to me all the time
2- Not really sure how to answer. I have a rich inner world but in the conventional sense of the word, no, not at all.

-I can really make a difference
4- Generally I feel like I can but it doesn't mean I always take the actions to make it happen

-I need to know that what I do really matters
5- why do it in the first place if it isn't going to matter in the end?

B)
-I would rather play by the rules
3- It really depends. Sometimes I follow the rules just because I want to avoid trouble or preserve harmony but its not my preference. Other times I prefer to follow the rules because they make perfect sense, or for safety reasons, or simply because I'm lazy and following the rules is the path of least resistance.

-I act provocatively
1- Provocative is generally the opposite of who I am.

-I like being in high energy environments
2- Once in a while, yes but most of the time, no.

-I frequently worry
5

-I come up with good solutions
4

-I enjoy social gatherings
2- Usually I prefer to be on my own but once in a while with the right people in the right circumstances they can be enjoyable.
