I'm starting this thread to list some of the errors that I think are frequently made while trying to type people. Please feel free to comment on my observations or add your own.

1: Sensors mistaken for intuitives, because the typer feels that sensors aren't that bright.

2: Feelers mistaken for thinkers because the typer thinks that Feelers aren't as bright as thinkers.

3: Thinkers typed as feelers, because they allow their emotions to get the better of them.

4: IPs mistaken for IJs because they form opinions rapidly.

5: IJs mistaken for IPs because they take their time deciding what they are going to do.

Fire away.

Sensors mistaking themselves for iNtuitives, simply because they're creative.

Feelers thinking they're Thinkers because they like/are good at Science or Math.

Good. I could also add "Thinkers who are mistaken for feelers because they are good with people"

I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't admit to it now, but I got a lot of "you are smart, you must be NT" when I first joined.

Introverts mistaken for extroverts, or vice versa, based on the number of friends they have.

ETJs are commonly typed because "they are my boss and are mean to me."

Young SJs are frequently typed as something else because they are not, in fact, boring drones that goosestep towards whatever society tells them to do.

I'm also a big fan of the "my anecdotal evidence trumps everything you say about type, a system that is statistical and probabilistic in nature" mindset that people seem to love.

Yeah, SJs get terrible sterreotyping.

Another good one is "I must be an intuitive, because I can see the big picture". I'm pretty sure seeing the big picture is something any type can do, just not necessarily in the same way.

NTs aren't into art or music, it's an NF thing.

Several of my NT friends are into music and art, so there goes that misconception.

"That guy's an intuitive, he's just so absent-minded!"
"That girl's a feeler, she's so shy and sensitive!"
"That dude voted conservative, automatic SJ!"

INFPs are all wishy washy oozers of nice-ness with no mean or rational bone in their body, so I must be INTP, INTJ, INFJ...

Pretty common is slapping N on anything that moves, introverted sensors in particular.

assuming that just because someone's mentally flexible that they're an N :thelook:

assuming that nice people are Fs... especially if they're girls

building rediculous stereotypes of different types and then basing your typing on that :rolli:

Very true. There are about 6 times as many SJs as NJs, but looking through the forum, you would sometimes think it was the other way around... I think we need somesort of Si awarness campaign. "Si - it's not dirty or dull."

I believe I can identify an artist if he/she has art. I would be obliged to call them creative if I saw creative works right before my eyes.. no matter what type they are. And if I don't see anything, I think nothing of it. It'd be pretty strange though to just give people artistic possibility because they have an N next to their name. Or downgrading someone because of S. Are people actually even doing that?

I'm always amused by the alleged intuitives who claim they smack into walls when they walk, then subsequently claim Leonardo da Vinci must be an N.
Perhaps they sustained a head injury after hitting the wall, and it affected their thinking.

not likely. people's logic, emotionally and mentally are like swiss cheese...gone bad
these people are likely to be called F's in our sphere.

and if they are assholes, their NTs. If they are stale bread, then they're STJs.

Hardly.

Well, clearly numero uno is basing I or E off of how frequently a person attends social gatherings and how much they enjoy them.

Number two is taking organizing of personal environment as an indicator of J or P.

Here's another one I've noticed..

You don't like somebody. They must be SJ.
