my thoughts on the matter are already in my head, writing is the vehicle that allows for them to be pulled out.

    no, silly!

A topic is chosen -- then we each write our own essay! And compare them afterwards.

Oh, come on... Everyone likes to bs at some point. And that's mostly what essays are -- putting together ideas in a convincing way...

Heh...I've done that before-for a college essay. I just had to figure out what to write first.

How does anyone write essay after essay on topics that don't interest them!?

(Nothing says INTP like putting off an essay for months after building multiple databases and spreadsheets... just to leave the course hanging.)
9 Weeks to write the first 1,000 words. 20 minutes to write the second 1,000 words the morning that it's due. Reminds me of a paper I wrote recently. It took me weeks to write the first 15 pages and then 24 hours to write the last 35.

To make things even more interesting, we could all PM our finished essays (by deadline) to a volunteer (such as *cough cough* Ivy *cough*) and have them post each of the entries anonymously, as well as a poll that people could vote for -- with the identities of the writers kept secret until the polling closes.
