There's a great deal of variation within the horror genre.

I honestly don't think it's always about "being desensitized to violence" either because realistic or real violence still upsets me, I'm not a violent person, and I'm much more emotionally affected from a drama. My ex watches some of the most violent horror movies ever made, but he also watches subtle psychological or supernatural horror, and openly cries over sad movies.

I watch movies for the same reason I listen to music: to feel what the characters are feeling, to "live it." What's the word? "Cathartic?"

I feel kind of torn about horror/suspense movies. Yes and no. I like being scared sometimes, and when I want to feel scared and freaked out, I'll watch one.

Nah, hobbies and media that people like aren't type related.

You're desensitized to the point where watching violence as entertainment apparently doesn't bother you. The idea of it even being entertaining bothers me. I tolerate it to a point when it's not graphic and is not the focus of the story.

No, you really don't get it. I'm deeply disturbed by real human or animal suffering. I'm more sensitive to things like that than some people I know. My horror collecting ex got in trouble at his place of employment because he kept letting homeless people in and feeding them. There is no connection between watching horror movies and being a "bad" or even an insensitive person.

Besides, you like The Shining, a movie which contains domestic violence, child abuse, and murder.:coffee:

I like apocalyptic horror, sci-fi horror, creepy/psych horror. Slasher films...I find them cheesy. Gore/blood doesn't scare me anymore (real or fake), and I prefer when it is not the focal point of any film/game. Although when I played dead space gore was everywhere, it wasn't the thing that scared you.

The best kind of scare is when something is coming and you may know what it is but you can't stop it.

I prefer psychological horror movies and horror movies with ghosts and stuff. I hate torture porn, I just can't watch gross things like that.
