So, I have to come up with something to research/hypothesize about that can be related to anything that vaguely has to do with politics. (Yeah...it's that broad.) I really want to do the correlation between MBTI and Party Identification (in the U.S.). I'm having trouble finding sources of anyone who has done this kind of research in the past, though. If anyone knows any, please send my way.

I'm rather sure that there is a correlation between the two. Most ENFP's I know are much more socialist and most INTJs appear to be significantly more conservative. Who knows.

I have the article you're looking for  but it exceeds the upload limit. If you PM me your email address I'll send it to you.

It's the article "The Relationship of Psychological Type to Political Self-Perceptions, Political Opinions, and Political Party Membership" from the Journal of Psychological Type, 2007, issue 3.

Abstract:

This research sought to replicate and extend prior research that explored the relationship between psychological type preferences and a variety of political topics. Participants from three different samples (n=454) provided information about their psychological type and completed questionnaires that measured political self-concept, opinions about political issues, and party membership. A preference for Sensing correlated with a conservative orientation and lower political interest than did a preference for Intuition, which correlated with a liberal orientation and greater political interest. The E-I dichotomy correlated significantly with a measure of political alienation, with Introverts reporting greater political alienation than Extraverts. The results also indicated correlations between type preferences and opinions about specific political issues, but no relationship was found between type and political party membership. Although research on the role of psychological type in the political arena is highly undeveloped, it holds much promise in understanding ongoing political divisiveness.

What level is the project at/what size does it have to be? The data in that paper matches pretty well with most studies... however it may be difficult to source that paper as easily if it is large/needs a lot of support..

Having been a political observer and participant, I have seen nearly every type, including in person, within the two major American parties. Trying to correlate choice of political party with temperament may earn a decent grade, but is reductionist and at worst invidious.

Two suggestions: 1) study the manner in which particular types value each party and involve themselves; or, 2) for more readily available source material, pick two opposing opinion journals (for example, National Review and The New Republic), familiarize yourself with each publication's contributors and, identifying writers' respective types, analyze the differing interpretations of leftism and rightism.

There is a pretty decent correlation between personality and political affiliation, though it lessens with party affiliation compared to ideology.

This is important because studies into personality influencing RWA and SDO are fundamental to the make up of these political styles. ( Irrational versus Rational Bases of Political Preference: Elite and Mass Perspectives by S. L. Sutherland, E. J. Tanenbaum is pretty awesome). Searching for big five/Neo + SDO/RWA or even political affiliation should return a substantial amount of research.

However, the general view is that personality -> RWA -> Political preference... so there is an element of truth that personality is weaker than it could be. Oh oh, a chance to use my line again... ask the questions that matter, get the answers that matter.)

Ideology, more likely, and that would be the angle I'm suggesting. Party affiliation? Possibly in regards to fringe parties, but not necessarily. Any affirming studies of Democrats and the GOP are contradicted by my own empirical exposure, and I know which is more veritable.

That's ok. I have no interest in actually researching or contributing to the field of political science. My interest is in achieving a serviceable grade, thus maintaining my scholarship and gaining a valuable piece of paper.

That reminds me of a PowerPoint presentation my friend gave for core-curricula that somehow remained his senior year, which was treated with apt seriousness: Wolverine versus He-Man: Who Wins?

Oh, now THAT would have been worth reading!

(with a bonus section of who has better hair: Wonder Woman or Isis?)
