lol, firstly, what are you doing with a kg of salted herring?

Submerge some overnight in water. The next day, fry them in a butter/olive oil combination with some garlic. Oh and if you're into it, you can deskin and debone them if they're whole, prior to frying but if you're not, you can make your guests take care of that.

...i made them into chinese-style soup, because i couldnt for the life of me figure out how to fry it and still have it stay in one piece
