I don't really make a list. Mostly, I wander around until something catches my eye (always the same stuff, though). Sometimes I'll take a recipe book with me.

carrots
kale
romaine lettuce
butter lettuce
dandelion greens
red onions
prunes
raw guacamole
soy milk
sweet potatoes
avocados
garlic
fizzy water
LARA bars: pecan, coconut, and cashew... sometimes peanut
almonds
sunflower seeds
pumpkin seeds
fruits: any/all, but especially pineapple, tangerines, and berries
agave syrup
olive/canola oil
red wine vinegar
raw chips/prepared snacks (if i pretend to not see the price)
bagged beans/rice
vanilla beans
olives
cilantro
etc.

Raw chips...? Do people usually boil their Fritos? :thelook:

throughout the month, it's sorta like this on a rotating bases

4x whole chicken
4x fish: sea bass, tilapia, bronzini, mackerel, belt fish, snapper
4lbs beef various cuts
4lbs pork various cuts
soy beans

to which I turn into:
chicken stock, chicken salad
fish stock, fillets
tofu

if I can get raw milk, I make cheese

then:
celery, carrots, onions, potatoes, rice, garlic bulbs, peppers, spinach, lettuce, eggs
to combine with the stocks I make.

some specialties like uni, fly fish roe, flour for bread/pasta/soba noodles. Then whenever we run out of sauces

fruits and fish are seasonal and we have a fruit basket with 2-3 types of fruits to grab and go

4x people, 150 meals, about $450/mo

about $2.50-4.00 a per meal. Left overs from dinner is repurposed for bfast or lunch next day.

Special cooking experiments or meals are on a separate budget and generally good for one meal since we give out the rest of the foods. Stuff like desserts made at home.
