- Go to a HEMA Tournament and go to practice once a week as much as possible.

2 weeks out of HEMA, and prior to that I was going but injured my thumb and couldn't fight for a while.. so I'm a bit out of shape, and definitely out of practice, but I am going. There are more options for me now, which makes it much easier.. I'll be attending Saturday and Sunday this week.

- I am aiming to complete 2 8-week programs for Fitness Blender.

I had to re-aim and re-think this for a minute.. I needed to create space for myself. I back tracked a bit and started a 30 day challenge with betty rocker work outs that I did a while back. I really like those, and I am creating the 30 minute space I need for fitness blender. I'm halfway through it right now. I think this is a better set up all around.

- I will drink a cup of water when I wake up in the morning, and I will drink 2 cups of water each day I get onto shift and again halfway through shift.

Mint tea has definitely helped me keep on track with this. I have had a cup of water most mornings lately, and I do drink 2 cups of water on shift... the other two? not so much, but it's been insanely busy at work.. I barely down my lunch before I gotta start running around again.

- 6-7 continuous hours of sleep depending on what my body is feeling, but try not to over sleep.

I feel like I always update this on the days I oversleep.. but I am only oversleeping 1 day a week now, and it's the recovery night after night shift work. So, overall, much improved. It isn't perfect, but it is much better, and I do feel like I have more time in my schedule not oversleeping.

- Eat vegetables of some sort with every single dish I cook

Still doing very well with this :) my fruit intake could be slightly better, but it's peach season which is gonna help and cherries are cheap right now too, my favorite popcorn-style snack.

- Make 3 Japanese-style dishes a week.

This month has definitely been a sort of flop diet wise, 4th of July and the parties going on prior to it.. I did eat relatively healthy during these events, but way too much, and certainly not much Japanese style cooking.. though I did eat a corn dog that was home made hahaha I don't think it quite counts. I also ate some really amazing Mediterranean food yesterday that sort of inspired me. Goat cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon, hummus and pita, lamb and shrimp, and pan fried potatoes seasoned with cilantro, parsley, olive oil, salt, pepper, and lemon. While I'm not going to venture to say any of it was healthy, easily a 1500 calorie meal not including dessert, I do think it inspired me to stop just doing easy little meals and start getting back into the kitchen. I sort of took a month off of cooking, and I'm ready to get back into it now.

- Run 2 miles like it's another day at the job 1-2x a week at least.

It's warm out finally! So am I running? .. NO! Hahaha. I did go running a few times, but not 1x a week yet and certainly not 2x a week. I think the best way for me to accomplish this is to do it before HEMA practice. I like the running area out there, and if I do it an hour before practice I can run, stretch, and maybe read a book until everyone shows up.

I've lacked discipline with food because of my years of depression. I've decided to cut out dinner. For as long as I can, today I am also cutting out breakfast.

I have almost three weeks before politicon, and unless I'm trying to impersonate a macy's day float, I will need to take this seriously. I think I could lose 17 lbs in 3 weeks.

I must push myself through this and break the hold that food has over me.

My mantra has been NO EAT.

^ I wouldn't say anything, but this seems unhealthy enough that it concerns me. Is the idea that it'll be short-term and then you'll move into a routine that involves consistent (but less extreme) calorie and nutrient intake throughout the day?

I went my second day without dinner yesterday. I need to be as disciplined as I know I can be now. If I'm going to be on camera I've got to give the ladies boners.

For the machinist Christian Bale ate one apple a day

It will have been 24 hours since I've eaten when I get to lunch.

*bump*

I have decided that a goal for me is going to be checking this thread, this subsection of the forum, as much as I do others.

Hell, a lot of the others threads and forums are dedicated to stuff that its unlikely will ever be changed by sounding off about it anyway and if the same time was spent focused upon physical improvements, exercise etc. there would be RESULTS.

Also excited to read about HEMA on this page as I've just discovered that there is a group near me and I am thinking of joining this week, at least going along this week to talk to people, would be interested in joining if its not too price and time prohibitive, I would like to learn to handle a quarterstaff, dagger or shield.

At the moment the big issue, and I really cant stress this enough to myself, is time management, my days simply disappear, today I got up too late at about nine twenty, then before I knew it, once the dog was walked, it was twelve, now I'm waiting for lunch with family before I hit the gym for an hour or two, which I dont have much choice about as its necessary to stabilise my blood sugars and try to recover my health.

I want to manage my time better, so that I can do some serious learning, reading, study and then my fitness training besides that, which I am determined to spend more wisely than I have, presently I've been using cardio machines to the point of exhaustion and then home, its fun, there's variety as there is a bike, rower, climber, treadmill, cross trainer, stairmaster in my gym, however, I am thinking it would be a good idea to do strength training on non-consecutive days, possibly as my work out or possibly in addition to my work out, I may need it to regulate my blood sugars anyway.

Around that I want to fit my one or two nights archery, one night HEMA, possibly, I need to socialise I think with some contacts from work, I was trying to figure out how I could make it an active thing, like walking but I'm not sure its going to work. I'm also ambivalent about that. I usually go out of my way to try and organise social meets with people but some of the time, depending on who it is, I come away feeling drained rather than reinvigorated, not sure what's wrong, I have been ill, so I know that that has damaged my motivation and put me in an introvert phase as opposed to usual extroversion. I dont even make conversation with people at the gym or other occasions when I have the chance.

Additionally, besides training up physically, I'm trying to find out ways to get my money working for me, I have savings but they are in very, very low interest accounts. I'm also thinking about investing in a house but need to give that some thought as it would be a big move at a time when my income could be undergoing some change.

Plus there is so, so, so much besides that I intend to read, watch and review or think about, seriously, how does anyone find the time, and that's all the stuff which I can say is strictly not work related, I need to up skill on the work front and that will take time and attention too. Of the one two major projects which come to mind, I want to develop some proper audio book recording skills, I want to make some travel plans and see if I can do all the planning, booking etc. myself, the previous big trips I've taken were planned and organised largely by my high intensity planning brother, I just had to show up, which was great, though lazy on my front.

Hunger pains not as bad as expected. Ketosis hopefully is the cause.

Dude eat some lean protein and drink a lot of water or you will wreak havoc on your system...in the long term, your body will eventually metabolize your muscle and then you will just look flabby/skinny fat. Usually for the extremely restrictive diets for the obese (very low calorie diet, VLCD), it's usually at least 800 calories.

Today, without the additional exercise it usually takes to get the result, and with having eaten chinese take away last night, which usually puts it away up, I got a reading of 6.4 before I ate food today after two. I'm loving the readings of 6. anything I've been getting this week, its taken serious cardio and fat burning work outs to do so but the fact I didnt work out today or yesterday and still got that reading proves I must be building up a bit of a metabolic change, which is great.

More hard work next week, though looking forward to it too.

Does anyone put any faith in some of the eastern philosophies about things like Chi and developing it?

OK this week I'm going to try and get up at seven without fail, I'm going to try and restrict myself to two hours of screen time total, I am going to spend any time I'm not physically training or otherwise occupied reading instead. I have a vast library of books I want to read. Only a single life to read them in and odds are against that. If I could even just read enough to fill a good size box for the charity shop each month of the books which are not keepers then I would be more than happy.

Here goes. I will report on how this week went come friday.

Been biking at least 3x a week to develop my legs for Mexico. Made it up the very steep hill that kicked my butt at the bottom of it day 1, but not without rest breaks, so will keep trying. I was really panting for a while at the 'top' of the steepest part.

Been doing fairly well drinking water at work actually, I chug two cups as soon as I get there and two cups with my lunches.. it's been the easiest way for me to fit in proper hydration.

My diet has been wrangling in slowly.. cooking Japanese-style meals hasn't been hard for me, but trying to balance food waste and convenience has. I inherited some free food and have been eating that down before I get to cooking again. Plus, the discount grocery store had a wicked good sale.. Breakfast, lunches, and dinners costed me a total of $25 this week, which is really low even for me.. $1.19 a meal and it's stuff I actually want to eat. :)

I had vague goals , to use the OP's wording, of drinking less alcohol and getting more exercise. The latter is still sporadic, but nothing sucks the life out of the party like working second shift wed-sun. I've also been eating less, but I haven't lost more than a pound or two at most.

Wonderful progress since this. I'm down roughly 15 pounds from my peak!

My friends peer-pressured me into doing a Spartan Sprint with them in a couple of weeks. I am not at all prepared, and only one of us can do a pull-up, so getting over those walls will be a little complicated - but worst case scenario we can skip a few obstacles and take the burpee penalty.

I ran for the first time in six months the other day and accidentally ran 5 miles(!) so that's exciting. My longest ever run before that was 4.5 miles. So I guess all the cross training paid off.

Probably going to run a 10k before November. Still deciding.

Not sure if I'm going to achieve my new year's resolution of being able to do a pull-up, but I'm getting there. I can pull 80 lbs-ish on those assisted pull-up machines, and I weigh about 145 lbs. That plus having workout buddies to run and go bouldering with, plus once-a-week obstacle course training (free if you help clean up after!)... feeling good about my fitness progress :)

I achieved balls all of my plans for waking at seven this last week, including reporting in on it on friday, I am going to do better this week.

I had a bereavement last week and some issues causing stress, anxiety and episodes of depression but that's ongoing.

This week I am going to go to HEMA, going to go back to archery. I am going to see about possible revenue out lays for bow, HEMA kit, quaterstaff this week too. Time to get serious.
