part of the problem is the filter, it turns black in a week.
Is it a cheap fiberglass filter, or does it have pleats? Is it 1 inch thick, or 4 inches thick?

Does it look more like this:

What makes it turn black? Is it fur, fine black dust, powder, dirt, or what?

It's not fur, and I don't know i don't buy the filter. But this house is dusty as fuck, and fuck is a lot. I think it's pleated, but the vents through out the house need to be cleaned.

If this is a house you share with others, you could close the vent in your bedroom. That would likely help significantly. Sleeping with more blankets might be worth it. Just don't burn anything like candles or a kerosene heater, as that could cause carbon monoxide buildup.
