He addresses that concern in the article. How does it effect the risk of cancer, etc. there is still a difference in the quality of calories, which he didn't take into consideration. He was simply showing that fewer calories (of any type)will produce weight loss.

I am not so sure myself. Risks of junk food? (assuming you take a multi vitamin) Too much sugar & salt, saturated fat? vs. risks of overweight/obesity: Heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, gallbladder disease and gallstones, osteoarthritis, gout.
