And high-five to you for going down some belt-sizes! How awesome is that? :D

Tomorrow I have orchestra rehearsals which take place in the same centre I do my piano (and flute) lessons. I'm thinking I'll walk there and back as my rest-day activity. Beats cycling on a crappy indoor bike any day

I'd say that I've slacked this week, but I have to remember that I'm still eating well and have been unintentionally walking around more while I've not been at Zumba.

A lot of driven, motivational people have joined in posting here and it makes my soul so happy :D. You kids are great!
I'm down another belt buckle. That's 3 since July. Or is it 4? I lost count.... which I consider to be a high quality problem.

I can't lift because of my cough, but I've been walking anywhere from 2-5 miles almost every day.
 Awesome mister! Stop having memory loss- I don't want to be forced into calling you an old fogey :nudge:
Your walking is definitely inspirational and makes me want to get out and about more.

I just checked out the route I took today on runningmap.com, and it turns out I covered 3.6k today (compared to 3.2 in the same time on wednesday night). That's 2.25 miles! Awesome :D

OMGosh what the HELL!
*why is Synapse exercising without being prompted to*
What a strange turn around.
Because exercising no longer feels painful. Where as before no matter how much I exercised I was in pain.
Now it feels good to exercise.

Yay so its like I went out jogging a few times already. I've started doing, push-ups and sit-ups and its confounding my brain like never before.
There is a different kind of energy and attitude of late and its most Awesome!

I was wondering if any of you uses 'help' to get in better body shape? like protein powder or creatine? Or caffeine pills? :D

Yay Synapse! That's great :D

Einnas: No, I don't, but I know a lot of people who do strength training take protein shakes for convenience.

Anyway, I walked to music and back today - a round trip of 1hr40 minutes. The route is quite hilly, and crosses two dual-carriage ways, so I'm happy enough with the time I took. Next time I'll try to shave it down to 90 minutes round trip. However, the boots I wore are very thin-soled though, with no cushioning, so now I have a blister on my heel :(

The only things I'm doing right now are eating well (except for breakfast on mornings I oversleep - yay Chick-Fil-A!) and walking, and I'm losing some pretty good weight.

As long as you get your diet right, you can have a bit of leeway for off weeks. Great job. :)

Thanks! I love walking this time of year. I'm going to be a bit disappointed when the clock goes back an hour and I can no longer do it.

Any idea why exercising doesn't feel painful anymore?

Anyway, that's excellent Synapse. Don't you just love the energy boost that exercise can give us?

I use a few.

1. Vitamin Code for Men multivitamin. Has enzymes and probiotics in it already, and is vegetarian friendly.

2. Carlson's Finest Fish Oil (orange flavor). Omega 3s jack up our metabolism and are antiinflammatories, so can actually help reduce exercise injury.

3. Protein powder. (Vanilla, Designer Whey) I use this in my smoothies, which usually work as post-workout nutrition or as a meal supplement.

4. Greens+. This is a vegetable supplement. This also go in my smoothies.

I wouldn't recommend Creatine for someone with your specific goals. I usually consider that for people looking for a performance edge, vs just getting in better shape.

I'm not a fan of caffeine pills myself, although I've heard arguments for their use in certain cases.

I've allowed for more 'treats' lately, but have still maintained my caloric intake. October is definitely my downfall month, but still some loss :D
Thank you, sir. Food is better than no food, I'd say. Definitely glad you're making progress and you're going to get a big enfj-infp hug in the near future lol. Some of my favorite kinds of hugs, I tells ya!

Meanie!

Why so? Gets too dark too early?
I used to walk outside more when I was younger, but now I've gotten doubly as squeamish about spiderwebs and things. I love when debbiegirl is around cause she gets me in outside mode (even though we aren't outdoorsy in the slightest)

In the past 3 weeks, I learned a lesson that has completely changed my progress.

Learn to like the feeling of being slightly hungry.

As it turns out, there's a huge difference between being slightly hungry, and being hungry hungry. When I'm slightly hungry, I might feel my stomach just a little bit, but mostly, I want a DQ Blizzard, cookie, pizza, or other snack. Healthy foods, such as a salad and small cup of chili, don't interest me.

When I'm actually hungry, though, I feel completely different. For ME, it begins by my stomach growling to the point where it's slightly distracting, and a glass of water doesn't fix it. If I wait longer, I may start feeling a bit weak, and perhaps jittery to boot. Sometimes I can feel a headache coming on. ...That chili and salad that I refused a few hours ago suddenly sounds perfect.

So I'm learning to enjoy the feeling of being slightly hungry, because it means that my body is having to use some of its fat stores to keep things going. Feeling slightly hungry means I'm losing weight.

Here's the trick, though: I have to plan my meal while I'm still slightly hungry. I also need to eat as soon as possible once I start feeling really hungry. I can't wait until I'm nearly starving. If I fail to plan my meal ahead of time, or wait too long to eat, then I WILL cheat and eat anything I can get my hands on. My willpower fails me once I get to a certain point, so I have to plan around that.

However, when I'm smart about this, eating until I'm ~80% full is actually pretty easy. I just need to remember to eat my food slowly, and start with smaller portion sizes and only add to my meal if I'm still hungry later on.

I've allowed for more 'treats' lately, but have still maintained my caloric intake. October is definitely my downfall month, but still some loss :D

Yeah, I imagine school makes it more difficult to focus on eating and exercise. It can be a challenge, for sure. As long as you stay focused and continue in the right direction though, you will be fine. :)

Thank you, sir. Food is better than no food, I'd say. Definitely glad you're making progress and you're going to get a big enfj-infp hug in the near future lol. Some of my favorite kinds of hugs, I tells ya!

Hmm… I don’t know if I’ve ever experienced such a thing. Sounds kinda scary! :D

Yup, it gets dark too early, so I can’t get in my full walks after work. I love outdoors stuff, though! Too bad my sucky Se keeps me from getting out there more frequently...

Udog... that sounds like a great discovery you've made for yourself.
I'm very happy for you.

I found out that the pain in my arms is probably not tennis elbow,
and I found a deep tissue specialist who has already helped me immensely in only one treatment.
I still have a couple of weeks of recovery to go, I assume, but I have hope that I will be able to keep my job.

Yay - I'm glad you found something to help your pain.

What's going on with your job? Are you taking leave while you are trying to fix your pain?

The feeling of being hungry, and just slightly hungry is annoying. I cannot imagine walking around being slightly hungry just to loose weight. Is it not better to just eat healthy and do cardio?

So next week, week 4 of my P90X, there is yoga twice a week. And I am beginning to be really annoyed by the 1h 30m yoga, so I have found a new program - only 45m! By the same Tony... Today is REST! :D and I am rewarding my self with one piece of chocolate!

Ah, but I AM eating healthy and walking. I have 4 or 5 meals a day consisting of veggie/fruit, protein, and fat. I just avoid eating until I'm stuffed, and by the time I'm feeling REALLY hungry again, I get to eat another meal.

I think part of this is that our goals are different. You don't really need to lose weight, so a maintenance type of diet combined with your P90X workouts will tone you up nicely. It's the perfect strategy for *you*.

Me? I still have ~60 pounds I'm aiming to lose. That means that I have to create a calorie deficiency so my body burns fat. Since my body doesn't want to use up its fat reserves, it lets me know by telling me it's a bit hungry. In order for me to lose the weight I want to lose, I need to accept the slightly unpleasant feeling of being hungry. I choose to do this by viewing it as a "good" thing. :)

The key is, differentiating between a perfectly normal "slightly hungry" feeling, and a "hungry hungry" feeling. Not eating when I'm feeling the latter leads to bad things.

What program is that? X-Stretch? Also, enjoy your chocolate. :) I'm going to reward myself with some pancakes + syrup today.

I'm going to go out running in about an hour/hour and a half. However there's some pain in my leg that's annoying me, so I'm not sure it's a good idea.

It's like a sharp burst of pain between the top-inside of my leg and the socket - feels like a tendon in that place? Occasionally when I shift it from one position to the other I get this "flare" and then it goes away again. Any thoughts on what it might be? I don't want to miss my run this evening :(

Oh, now I get it! :D Clever *touching nose*. Well, good luck with that!

No it is another yoga program by the same guy doing the P90X.. It is just an easier version. I was getting really tired of the not touching the floor downward dogs and push ups etc! :D but next week has two times Stretch X too.
Enjoy your pancakes and syryp! :D

Back from my run! I was nervous about those 3 minute runs this week, but I just slowed my pace right down and took 'em on. They were tough going alright, but not unachievable either. It actually works out as the same amount of time running as last week (total 9 minutes), but broken into less intervals, so you're increasing your endurance. Looking forward to tuesday's run already :D

P.s. I've started a tumblr where I'm also keeping track of all this stuff, along with other general life things. Check it out if you're interested by CLICKING HERE
