Are you old or are you young?

Why don't you look in the mirror to find out?

or better still, read "The Mirror" by Sylvia Plath -

"Mirror" by Sylvia Plath

I am silver and exact. I have no preconceptions.
Whatever I see I swallow immediately
Just as it is, unmisted by love or dislike.
I am not cruel, only truthful,
The eye of a little god, four-cornered.
Most of the time I meditate on the opposite wall.
It is pink, with speckles. I have looked at it so long
I think it is part of my heart. But it flickers.
Faces and darkness separate us over and over.

Now I am a lake. A woman bends over me,
Searching my reaches for what she really is.
Then she turns to those liars, the candles or the moon.
I see her back, and reflect it faithfully.
She rewards me with tears and an agitation of hands.
I am important to her. She comes and goes.
Each morning it is her face that replaces the darkness.
In me she has drowned a young girl, and in me an old woman
Rises toward her day after day, like a terrible fish.

Who are you?

What do you say to the mirror?

And what does the mirror say to you?

I am looking in the mirror with you and I can see both of us side side, and what matters is how we treat each other.

It's what's on the inside that counts

I often wink at my reflection :newwink: It winks back, doesn't say anything, though.

I delight in expressing what is on the inside on the outside.

And having a rich and deep inside means I have a rich and deep outside.

And I flow like water towards those who are rich and deep.

But seriously how mad is the official video to MJ's Man In The Mirror? How messed up is all that newsreel footage?

We look in the mirror, and with our mirror neurons, we are a mirror.

Our mother, with her mirror neurons, was our first mirror. Indeed our reflection in our mother gave us our first sense of self.

So what kind of mirror was your mother? Empathic or without empathy, creative or uncreative, authoritarian or helping?

And how did we respond to our reflection we saw in our mother?

It reflects you faithfully. Ah, if only I could reflect you so faithfully. But the best I can do is to project onto you then test my projection in reality. And I am sure to make mistakes. And I wonder if you can forgive me.

I sit in the mud, looking at the distorted reflections of nature. And when I see my face, I don't know it.

Mirror Mirror off the wall, what happened here, why did you fall?
When last I gazed into your reflective depth you hung on the wall...
Had I known I'd have got a net. And now you broken? Has it been seven years yet?

So Mirror, mirror off the wall, I guess we both have dropped the ball, shattered now, you, from grisly fall, and alas nails should I have used to hang you 'pon the wall.... So Mirror Mirror on the floor. I hope the next seven years aren't too much a chore.

The mirror on the wall is the external manifestation of our internal mirror neurons.

The mirror on the wall is an extension of our senses. In particular our sense of knowing what other people think and feel.

The largest animal in the world is not the Blue Whale, no, it is a creature without fangs or claws, but has the unique ability to know what others are thinking and feeling.

Yes, our mirror neurons enable us to know what others are thinking, so together we make up a huge animal. We are so big we dominate the whole Earth.

This is invisible to us because we look at the world through individual eyes, but this is changing as we move from being literate individuals to electronic tribes.
