Does having an avatar with a face on it make that poster seem more human?

Being the Judging McJudgerson that I am, I am judging people by their words too. :D But when I look at an avatar I always think hmmm what is this person hoping I will get form this.
I wouldn't begin to speculate about what others get from my avatars. We are all too different. Just from the occasional comments I receive, I can tell that my avatars are received very differently by different members. I choose them based on what I get from them, the only person whose response I can be assured of. (Just as I dress to please myself, not others.)

For those so inclined, however, there is an entire thread devoted to judging people by their avatars.

LOL- well I guess I must check out that thread if I haven't already. I'm not sure I do it consciously most of the time and it's not always critical. It can definitely just be a way of trying to see a person from many angles, taking in all the information I can on who that person is. I think all avatar choices say something about you, though exactly what this is will be quite open to misreading.

Absolutely, on all counts. For me, you will be reading what I find personally appealing. I understand the judging thing as I do it IRL all the time, almost reflexively. I have learned, though, to keep my judgments to myself unless I have plenty of data to support them, or necessity compels me to voice them prematurely.
