The shared trance many of us are familiar with is the hypnogogic trance as we fall asleep and as we wake up. So if we are sleeping with someone we love, we share the hypnogogic trance twice every day with them. And if we share a trance every day with someone we love, we bond with them.

And another shared trance many of us are familiar with is the sexual trance, where shared rhythmic movement leads to quite a deep trance. And such a trance is deeply bonding.

Another shared trance that is less familiar these days is the trance of dance, where two partners move rhythmically together, entering a lighter trance, but which is also bonding.

Narcissists of course enter a trance alone and bond with no one. Narcissistic trance is common in our society. And narcissistic trance is damaging.

And so apart from the hypnogogic, the sexual, and the dance trances, there are other shared trances, and there are shared trances we can create for ourselves for specific purposes.

And once we embark on shared trances for specific purposes, we become trance designers.

I get the trance part, but why designer? Why not for example executive? Where did you get this theory?

Trance Theory was created by Dennis Wier in his book Trance: From Magic to Technology and his later book The Way of Trance.

Trance Theory gives a practical description of trance. And Trance Theory owes more to the Enlightenment than to religion.

Interestingly religion is based not on reason but on trance.

All religions have sophisticated trance inductions, that are usually taught to children and practised all through the life of an adult.

And trance forms the foundation of religion because in a trance our critical minds go to sleep and we become suggestible. And so in a trance we are taught foundation stories and explanations of the universe that make no sense but are accepted into our minds and beliefs without critical analysis.

This is why religious belief can never be defeated by reason.

So the religious trance can only be defeated by another religious trance, or those who are entranced by religion can start to wake up by thinking critically.

However critical thinking is discouraged in most religions and forbidden in others. So those entranced by religion are in a double bind. And a double bind is very hard to break out of.

A muslim who used critical thinking to escape from Islam is Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who we can meet in her book Infidel.

And we can meet Ayaan Hirsi Ali by clicking on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEaazz40CYY

I feel stupid for repeating myself over and over to everyone.

A trance can be induced by any repetition. So by repeating yourself over and over you are reinforcing your own religious trance and seeking to entrance others.

This is not intelligent. We don't get a trance (a habit) to guide us. We use our intelligence to guide us optimally. Animals use trance to learn or entrance others, the reptilian brain. But humans use the frontal lobe, the evolutionary most developen part of the brain.

Using the frontal lob takes a large amount of energy, while trance uses less energy.

So critical thinking in the frontal lob requires work, while trance takes us back to our supported life as children.

Trances are very common, and we move in and out of culturally approved trances all day.

Indeed mbti itself is a trance induction. Mbti is free from critical thought, and is accepted uncritically, and mbti makes suggestions which we accept uncritically.

Indeed both astrology and mbti are confidence tricks, that trick us into the comfortable trance of childhood.

The giveaway is that both astrology and mbti are spoken of with great confidence, without a shred of evidence and reason, as we would expect with good confidence tricks.
