The study of personality types is called psychometrics, yet psychometrics seems to be missing.

And although we discuss many things we rarely discuss the psychology of these things.

So it seems both psychometrics and psychology are missing.

Why is this?

Shoot, I'll admit up front that I'm really not into quantitative psychometrics at all. It's a huge reason I turned away from going further into psychology and getting a Master's in it. Telling people how "smart or not" they are on so-and-so's scale just isn't my cup of tea.

But yeah, @Nights and Days is right. Honestly I think any gathering of people this big will always result in a discussion of life. Yeah typology laces in and out and through but the big issues - love, work, happiness, meaning - always shine through. And that is as it should be. The big picture of life should always overshadow everything else. We can forget that in the "daily grind" sometimes.

Yup.

It's the only way forums like this survive and remain active. PersonalityNation was around for a few years and they really focused heavily on figuring out what typology is, backing up up with relavent research, etc. It was active for a while, and the social aspects took a focus which caused drama. The admins started to put the focus back on discussing the specifics of what typology and keeping most of the discussion rational/scientific. It was a lot of effort for all parties involved. Eventually, the site died from lack of interest. It's not something casual when you get to the nitty gritty, and that's not for most people.

So we have a wonderful pool of naive subjects whose psychological defence mechanisms are obvious for all to see.
