Has anyone wondered about the social dynamics of seating choice before?

It seems people based their choices based on perceived similarities between themselves and the people they sit next to. From eye glasses, to body mass.

I've thought some about it but I always thought it was more driven by social status than by mere appearance (although appearance can certainly influence one's status). That's the way it was in middle/high school. Popular kids sat together. "Losers" sat together. Popular wannabes sat together. Nerds sat together. There wasn't much intermixing. There was some variation in appearance in the groups. Not everyone necessarily had the same hair color or even the wore the same clothing although it was well established that the popular crowd was regarded as more physically attractive overall with a better fashion sense and able to afford all the latest styles.

It's funny at work, it seems like the higher up on the ladder you are, the closer you sit up front.

In high school at least: NTs try to sit where no one will bother them. NFs try to sit near a window to look out and daydream. SJs try to sit with other "normal" people. SPs try to sit where they can get away with the most. Just a theory.
