Well, its not the forum, rather its forum members and how they choose to use the space but there's evidence enough in the last page or two as to what I dont like.

Reported it too. As per mod recommendations.

I'll go back to spectating in the circus stands here. No sense being an easy target.

I've been here since the beginning and have some meaningful connections here, so it is a source of stability for me. I avoid political and other discussions that often seem unproductive and a way to express anger. The only thing I don't like is hard to put into words. It has to do with those times a poster becomes extremely dominant and bullying, but they are smart enough to not break any official rules, so they definitely bypass Te observation and completely get away with their behaviors. There have been a few dozen over the years, so I'm not thinking of any particular one. I find them worse than actual trolls who are sometimes hilarious to me, but I have left the forums for a few years at a time because of the crafty bully types.

Alternatively, you could grow a pair.

For some reason I got a post quote notification for anti’s response to jag, even though this is not quoting me. And there are other times where I will see someone quoted me in a thread but I didn’t receive any notification. Unrelated to what jag and anti are discussing but since we’re talking about what we dislike, maybe this is a bug the mods should be looking for?

Is this happening to anyone else?

Holy shit. Wow. These type of feedback threads always seem to go south, don’t they?

Hi, Buffy. Btw, since this is a like/dislike thread, I like the politics forum. Could you try and control yourself better and not get it shut down again by posting crazy shit? Thanks, bud. ;)

That one was my bad. I accidentally quoted you and posted it before I noticed. Went back and deleted your quote, pasting in Jags. I wondered what it looked like on your end.

They happen when someone quotes someone and then changes their mind.

It also occurs when you use multiquote in the same thread and then, post again after that, without unticking the posts you multiquoted the first time. It's been like this for at least a couple of years, if not longer.

Yes that's right. The ticks stay unless you untick them. The developer said this is the way Vbulletin works. I didn't remember it working like that before.

Your memory's accurate. It didn't used to work that way.

I've often quoted people accidentally because of this glitch so my apologies.

Good to know. I'll see if he can fix it. It's always annoyed me personally since I'm a heavy multi-quoter

- I have really enjoyed the discussions on typology topics and the depth of knowledge our members have had and their perspectives
- I like the sense of community - there are people who are just great here that I have enjoyed interacting with
- When I took over the forum, I liked having to learn a new thing and loved the creative part of trying to make the site better
- Though it has reduced the level of forum traffic, Discord is a fun way to interact with people

Dislikes:
- The drama eruptions that occasionally occur are a complete turn off. It's like don't people have better things to do?
- A few but not many are not good people - backstabbing, negative, toxic, etc. One person I can think of - is a complete asshole. I think there might be a way to run statistics on how much of an asshole someone is. It probably would be possible with text mining software

I don't think Discord reduces forum traffic. It's a different format.

You could add that asshole detector to the forum post analyzer! :D

This forum is quite literally engaging in an entertaining form of pseudoscience, of course no one here has anything better to do.

People with better things to do don't spend umpteen hours of their life creating threads about what type a celebrity is, or if they are ever going to solve their existential angst through knowing what their type is, or getting angry that someone is mistyped or has mistyped them. Or (my biggest bugbear) asking about relationship advice or using type to somehow get some kind of guide to getting into relationships. Guess what? Relationships are fucking hard work and there is no shortcut, avoiding people who appear like other people because of some assumptive typological system is not going to make your lives easier or your relationships more stable.

And if there is a consistent pattern you keep falling into, the issue is probably you.

Getting into ultimately futile political discussions from a position that is least likely to ever influence any real politics. If any of us actually gave a shit about anything we profess to care for in the world, then we would be out their doing something about it, instead of arguing with 'Mr Jangles' and his opposing opinion that upsets me.

So yeah, definitely nothing better to do.

As for why I'm still here? Well I also have nothing better to do and I genuinely like some of the people here, even if I don't always share their beliefs or ideas.

I knew someone who was a dedicated marxist-leninist once, it was a different time when the internet was just starting out and wasnt so much a mass medium as it has grown to be today, and they where kind of self-aware about a lot of the claims to "scientific socialism" of the past where totally and utterly bunkum, they created an amusing website all about it and had sections dedicated to Phrenology, biological explanations in early criminology, Palmistry other sorts of pseudo-sciences.

It wasnt an interactive site, beyond reading that is, but it was hilarious, kind of a Ripply's believe it or not of science, he was a cool guy and didnt push his own ideology much on that part of his site, besides saying when you think about these popular delusions of the past what do you think of contemporary "voodoo economics"? Which I thought was true. I cant remember that guy's name and his whole site has disappeared from the web, along with others like the 43Things website (it lingers on in a pale imitation of its former self).

It is a sort of amusement or entertainment, online discussion that is, at least that's what I think and it was interest in online discussion as opposed to strict typology that brought me to this site. I think there's space for people like that on this site or there ought to be.

I'm imagining some sort of Acme Snark-O-Meter :D

On a more serious note that type of thing could be interesting in tracking, over a long term, explanatory style, attributional style, in so far as global conclusions could be drawn from a single, smaller source (you'd have to have some sort of variable research criteria about no. of posts etc.), in some ways this is what I imagine that data mining is, and I can see how people think that private and public agencies do that to perform some sort of public mood testing or surmise about how to manipulate public moods even.

I'd just like to see if it was possible to test some of the much, much more basic ideas from CBT and NLP about "automatic negative thoughts" or other tools from Cognitivism.

Online discussion forums are almost a perfect place to do blind testing but you're going to have problems arguing its a random population, like if you draw conclusions about forum users its just going to be forum users, if you introduce other criteria like typology forum users, then your evidence is even more niche perhaps.

I know I just over thought the whole thing :D

A = total number of posts
B = number of posts in the off-topic thread
C = total number of infractions less reversals and warnings

(B/A) * C = Asshole factor
