It's time for the first challenge for this season! Are you ready? I hope you are.

Challenge 1: Photo Scavenger Hunt

If you have access to any items or people fitting the descriptions below inside your home, feel free to use them. But part of the point of this challenge is to get folks out of their parents' basements and into the bright, brilliant world to energize this competition. So some of them are unlikely to be found in your homes.

Here is the list. When the challenge is over, your team should post an ORIGINAL photo for each item below. Include a short explanation, if it would help the audience understand or enjoy the photo.

  • The typical NT
  • The typical NF
  • The typical SJ
  • The typical SP
  • Someone in uniform
  • Someone with a pet in public
  • Someone enjoying music
  • Someone being disappointed by life
  • A team member enjoying a local delicacy
  • A team member having fun at a playground
  • A team member in or around a fountain
  • A team member making a scandalous purchase
  • A secret
  • An arch
  • A bridge
  • A statue

Split the list amongst yourselves as you wish. To prove your photos are original, consider putting a common item, agreed on by each participating member of your team, in the frame of each photo.

As long as your entries are original and somehow fit the item descriptions above, use your imagination and interpret them as liberally as you wish. Submissions will be judged on creativity and quality of photography, in that order.

Three things:
  • Do not post anything, anywhere that violates overall forum rules (porn, etc.).
  • You have one week and one day to complete this challenge. Which means, teams need to post submissions in this thread no later than Sunday, 4/5/09 at 3:00pm EST. This will be followed by a three-day break before the posting of the next challenge.
  • Final submission will be accepted when the team captain posts the final product.
Good luck!

I'm putting people in usergroups now so that you can see your private, team forum.

I'll be done shortly.

None of it is hijacked from the internet..

This is a scavenger hunt so part of the point is to take new photos for it, but if you have a photo you've taken that fits one of the categories better than anything you think you can get in the next week, I think it's okay. Just no Google image search pilfering, was the main thrust of the originals-only rule.

Yeah I have like 3000 flickr photos, sounds a bit questionable just pulling. Is my team supposed to be doing anything?

You have a week and a day to turn in your team's submission, so how you pace yourselves is up to you all.

Using your own old photos doesn't violate the challenge rules, but I, personally, will be voting for a team who uses photos that seem to be freshly created for the Gauntlet. It's more fun that way.

Yeah, I honestly would prefer to just be creative and take more photos. Make an adventure of it. Etc.

Small clarification: 4/5/09 is next Sunday. Many apologies for not putting the day of the week in the challenge due date.

A couple of clarifications:

You need to turn in a total of 16 photos, one for each scavenger hunt item. Submissions with fewer than 16 items won't meet the challenge requirements.

The "common item" suggestion is a way you could (but are not required to) show that your photos are original and were taken for this competition. As a result, having a common item such as "people" or "trees" would not really be worth the trouble. But a common item such as "sock monkey" or "forum member giving the peace sign" would, since it would be nigh on impossible to search Google images and find 16 photos that meet the submission requirements, all of which have a sock monkey or someone giving the peace sign in the frame.

I'm regretting I didn't sign up now. This one is way cooler than last time's challenges. :nice:

Someone who had dropped out before the beginning was accidentally assigned to a team anyway, so Random will replace that person on the yellow team.

Hmmm. For reals?

Ok, but really I won't be able to dedicate excessive amounts of time to this, and I don't want to be harassed about it like last time. Is that ok?

Maybe I spoke too soon- I thought you had actually volunteered. If you don't want to, you don't have to. But if you want to, we're doing it a bit more leisurely this time (a week per challenge and 3 days off between). And I can't say whether you'll be harassed but if I know Noel (which I don't, not very well, but from what I know of him) you won't be.
