I've read the Self Preservation 3 described as having the vanity of having no vanity (or something like that). What does that mean exactly? How does that set it apart from the Sexual or Social 3? Is there a pronounced difference between the Sp/Sx and Sp/So 3?

Vanity usually refers to external physical apperance, and that is certainly not what an 3 sp would be focused completely on.

Kind of. 3 sp looks for external validation, but are not as outwardly flashy about it. Still sensitive to outside input.

Descriptions that '3 sp's need to be seen as having enough material security' is total dogshit.

Every type's vice is not the simplistic common version you may witness in others (who don't possess it as their "passion"). It's a more deeply rooted thing that can be harder to detect. Given the nature of the sp instinct, it seems it often results in a type where the passion and fixation are more muted & harder to detect on the outside.

Another example of this is the 9 sloth - many 9s will stay busy with work and not appear lazy in the everyday sense; they may even appear to be very hard workers with great attention to detail. It's more of a psychological laziness, not wanting to deal with anything disturbing to process emotionally or mentally.

The vanity of having no vanity...call it, they want to look good, but they don't want to come off as though they are primping : they just prefer to look like they are 'all that' *NATURALLY*, without effort.
Convex, not concave, if that makes any sense.
