For a while I've settled on 5 as my head fix, given my high tolerance for solitude and penchant for "dark" subjects. But I'm wondering if I actually have a 7 fix.

- I dabble in a lot of things -- ideas, books, places, even religions -- but I don't often focus that deeply in any of them. If I sense that it's no longer bringing me closer to "The Truth", I'll move to something else. For example, I've lost count of the number of books I've started and never finished or the number of times I've started some self-improvement project, only to drop it a month later. Lord knows if I was able to actually settle and commit to something, I'd be about 50 lbs. lighter, 100x more literate, a vegan, and an HTML genius, among other things. Self-discipline, I'm embarrassed to admit, is not my strong suit.

- I identify slightly more with frustration than competence (even though i very much value intelligence). 1 and 4 are almost always in the top 3 types on every test I take.

- There have been times when i do get deeply into something and it occupies every minute of my time. I have spent hours upon hours playing video games or surfing porn and doing nothing else.

- Unfortunately, the "dabbling" also applies to people. If a friend or acquaintance is no longer bringing me to some "higher place" or to some place of depth, then I don't keep in contact with them. Which sucks, because if I felt differently, I'd probably be an awesome networker, which would help my job prospects. But I'm a junky for authenticity with people.

So what do you all think?

you're not conceited enough to have a 7 fix. the 7 fix brings a sense of hedonism, egocentrism, flamboyance (not necessarily in a gay or even sexual way, but we have a penchant for that which is bold, colorful and somewhat outrageous) and excitability, none of which I see in you.

you are a 1 (though I could see 9w1 as well). 1s are a frustration type

- There have been times when i do get deeply into something and it occupies every minute of my time. I have spent hours upon hours playing video games or surfing porn and doing nothing else.
- secondary Sx
- Ni (Ni is often a very obsessive function)
- most people do this

- Unfortunately, the "dabbling" also applies to people. If a friend or acquaintance is no longer bringing me to some "higher place" or to some place of depth, then I don't keep in contact with them. Social last

PS: imo 1w9 Sp/Sx works much better for you (much better than Sexual 3/4 did. you're mellow, down to earth and the furthest thing from a drama queen)

Yeah I said in a similar thread on PC if some of this behavior can be attributed to Sx/Sp. I'm still unsure.

you don't seem to have the internal conflict of a Sexual 1. Sexual 1s are highly nitpicky of their partners, almost to the point of being controlling. Sx doms of all types are more obsessive and conflicted than I see in you (particularly Sx/Sp). you're much more low maintenance, mind your own business and display a sense of internal calm.

this character is a good example

This all sounds like sexual instinct stuff to me. I think the sexual instinct can mimic seven. I often test really high on seven on enneagram tests for that reason (and the fact that I'm a fellow frustration type). I relate to everything you say as an introverted sx/sp (except the potential of being an awesome networker. No matter what I did this would never happen. Is that your Fe talking?)

What Elfboy says here sounds more like 9w1. A mellow sp/sx 1 INFJ?

Regarding the networking, whatever social ease I've gained came from a great deal of conscious effort. In truth, I really couldn't be bothered with it.

Yeah, I agree with Elf Boy kinda. I don't really know you, but 7 seems a little more flamboyant than what you described. It's this like constant overflow of cool stuff that you're just so excited about. Very experimental and enthusiastic.

wtf?
Weren't you an e4 when I first joined 2010? I forget which e-type you were trying to fit to whatever image you were trying to portray at the time. I'm growing tired of seeing it done to e7 though. (I'm just now remembering your e8 'I'm just like Anakin Skywalker' phase.)

Cloud of Thunder I would imagine you have a 5 or 6 fix.

like 90% of NFPs who are Enneagram noobs, yes.

I forget which e-type you were trying to fit to whatever image you were trying to portray at the time. I'm growing tired of seeing it done to e7 though.
narcissism is at the core of type 7. I bring this up frequently because of the rampant stereotypes about them. 7s are not the bright, bubbly socialites less credible descriptions make them out to be. yes, many of us are externally nice, but underneath it's all about acquisition of pleasure. Self Preservation 7s are ruthless hedonists and businessmen while Sexual 7s are darker and more 4-ish. it's only the Social 7, which Naranjo refers to as the counter gluttony 7 which most descriptions portray accurately.

(I'm just now remembering your e8 'I'm just like Anakin Skywalker' phase.)
irrelevant (and I don't think Anakin is an 8. I think he's an unhealthy 2).

naturally, you're welcome to question my type, but given you typed me both as a 9w8 and Sp last, forgive me for being skeptical

at the end of the day, the way to find your type is to ask "what the fuck is wrong with me?". the description that captures this is your type

I think you're So/Sx tbh (possibly Sp/Sx. either way, you seem Sx second)

Elfboy, you told someone they did not have a 7 fix because they were not conceited and flamboyant enough in a 'not necessarily gay or sexual way.' And this makes sense to you?. This is how we should determine whether someone is an e7 or not. If the person's flamboyant enough in a gay, sexual or not otherwise stated/specified way...

So it would also make sense to say 'you don't party enough to have an e7 fix or core.' Or to tell a prospective e5 they 'don't hoard and withdraw enough'... or a prospective e8 they don't 'control and dominate' enough. Or to say to someone claiming to have a cold that their nose isn't runny enough...

I see why you question my way of doing things now as I start with the core fear as opposed to the 'possible symptoms.'

naturally, you're welcome to question my type, but given you typed me both as a 9w8 and Sp last, forgive me for being skeptical

You have typed yourself all across the enneagram and MBTI spectrums and yet you save your skepticism for me...I feel special. But I can type by behavior as well. You've posted one too many photos of yourself in a towel and asked people to rate your attractiveness to be a sx/sp.

CoT,

As I'm assuming you know e5 & e7 are connected points on the enneagram...and they often employ some of the same strategies to distract themselves from their core issues. So in spite of what seems like two completely opposite types...it is not uncommon to have an e5 mistake themselves for an e7 and vice versa. You typing yourself as 4w5...I am now under the impression that the chances your head fix is 5w4 are pretty good but this is certainly not an automatic thing.

I want to understand what you meant by 'identifying more with frustration' than competence in your OP...

lol I'm not saying every 7 fixer looks like Lady Gaga, but I am saying a 7 fix brings a sense of hedonism, proneness to excess and a certain flair to one's personality.

So it would also make sense to say 'you don't party enough to have an e7 fix or core.'
^bad comparison. this is a ridiculous stereotype, the traits I listed were not

Or to tell a prospective e5 they 'don't hoard and withdraw enough'...
depends on their variants. a Social or Sexual 5 not hoarding is possible, but a Self Preservation 5 not hoarding....no. they're mistyped

I see why you question my way of doing things now as I start with the core fear as opposed to the 'possible symptoms.'
I type by a combination of factors, but, like any good psychologist, I take symptoms into account. gotta use that Tertiary Te :newwink:

You have typed yourself all across the enneagram and MBTI spectrums and yet you save your skepticism for me...I feel special.
I've been pretty certain about my core for almost a year actually (though I've trolled and put up other types just to fuck with people. should have known this would come back to bite my credibility in the ass lol)

But I can type by behavior as well. You've posted one too many photos of yourself in a towel and asked people to rate your attractiveness to be a sx/sp.
lol
but even in this example, that would be an evidence for Sx dom (Sx has an aspect of exhibitionism that is often understated, even if it's more subtle and under the surface in certain types)

Gee thanks. Even more confusion. >_>

you don't have the feistiness or energetic nature of an Sx dom. the only Sx dom I could see you as would be 9w1 Sx/Sp

Sexual 4? no way in hell (sexual 4s are freaks. they have so much intensity it hurts)

a few excerpts from Maitri.
Sexual 4: Competition/ Hate
Sexual Fours compete with others of their own sex in their attempt to find love. Their competitiveness is based n a sense that love is scarce and so it needs to be fought for. They try to convince their rivals and the object of their affection that they are better than the competition, and their wish to "disappear" their challengers is a form of hatred. The choice of object of desire is determined by how many other people want that person, so that, too, arises out of competition. Sexual Fours are not only competitive in the relationship arena - competition is their dominant behavioral characteristic - but it is there that it is most pronounced. The passion of envy manifests here as wanting someone another has or desires and in their underlying hatred of their rivals.

Sexual 3 is out of the question too imo
Sexual Three: Masculinity/Femininity
To Sexual Threes, physical and sexual appeal seems like the key to being desired, so they emphasize their gender characteristics. As a general style, the males exaggerate their virility and masculinity, and the women intensify their femininity. When attracted to someone, they take on the attributes of that person's inner masculine or feminine ideal - in Jungian terms, shaping themselves into the other's animus or anima. They are competitive with others about being seen as the most attractive, and being successful is measured by being desired. The passion of lying manifests here in deceiving themselves that love is the answer, that they must shape themselves into their beloved's ideal to be loved, and ultimately that they are their image. It also appears in their use of duplicity to out-maneuver their rivals and wn over the object of their desire.

and, because you've considered 1 a few times
Sexual 1: Heat/ Jealousy
Sexual Ones have a vivacious, gushy, hyperanimated, and effusive style of behavior. This constant sense of being impassioned is a leaking of their sexual "heat" into their personality style. They are perpetually afraid that someone more perfect will come along and steal their partner, if they have one, and so are always on the alert for signs that their partner desires someone else. If they don't have a mate, they are convinced deep down that another, better person will be more desirable to their object of affection than they are. As Ichazo says, "Union with another is always threatened by someone more perfect."

on the other hand, this seems a bit closer to home.
Sexual 9: Union
Sexual Nines are driven by a desire for the love of another and for total union, which appears to them as the key to their happiness. Total merging with another is seen by Sexual Nines to be what they need to be whole. They tend to merge easily with others, losing touch with themselves in the process. The substitution of another for what they really need to merge with - their essential nature - is the heart of a Sexual Nine's passion of laziness. Since this is the archetype of all the sexual types, this attempt to fill the hole left by loss of contact with Being with the love of another is shared by all of the subtypes that follow.

a few excerpts from Maitri..

Maitri's description of sexual four sucks. The focus is far too much on relationship competition. I like Naranjo's better. (Seriously, what planet is Maitri on that this relationship rivalry and competition goes on? If I were to base my type on her description I would say no fucking way.) But yes, we're freaks.

This is totally right on (Nayanjo's Four):

Sexual: Competition (Hate). Competitive anger ("I want that, too!"). Where the Social Four makes
comparisons and feels "little," the Sexual Four experiences envy in the sense of denying their inferiority
("I should have it. It's unfair that I don't!") An arrogant position, a covering up a little bit like the Two
covering up their Four connection; e.g., Baudelaire's mother remarried when he was eight years old and
he made such a fuss about being replaced by a stepfather that he ended up being put out on the streets.
His position was always demanding and arrogant. He transformed the feeling of misunderstood genius
into art in his poetry. Angry envy. The word "envy" in Latin has to do with vision, with seeing, with the
"evil eye," wanting something bad to happen to the enemy. "Borderline 3 Personality" describes the
sense of what we'd call a Sexual Four. Very intensely desiring. You want something so much you push
until you are rejected. You have so much desire to be accepted you act invasively. The fantasy that you
would be rejected leads to the very behavior that gets you rejected.

All of them are here- http://www.breakoutofthebox.com/NaranjoSubtypes.pdf

Sexual fours are very angry. If you feel like you are about to explode much of the time and fantasize about ripping off your skin because your life isn't the way you think it's supposed to be, like you and your genius has been cheated, well... consider it.

I think you make valuable contributions to this forum (I loved that weirdo towel photo thread you created - I laughed so much at the responses)...and in this case speaking specifically regarding typing...even when I disagree with you. You take risks that I admire and I feel like I've told you that before. This isn't about questioning your credibility to type (you were the one that did that to me)... this is about questioning your concept of whatever type you believe you are at the time...And I know I'm not the first...or the last person to do this.

Yes, I definitely believe you are Fi>Se and a 9 with one of the strongest connections to 3 I have ever seen in a person (I'm not the only one here either.) Why you don't see this... how you can read even your most resent message to me and not see a screaming 9 sx is beyond me but I don't care. I don't need Elfboy to be typed correctly. But I do question how you 'spin the image' of e7 since e7 is what you currently list yourself as. This narcissism thing dude... I believe all the e-types have an element of self-centeredness...because that's fear for yah. But I do believe an e7 can be self-absorbed without vanity and narcissism. But it's more than that...self-centeredness and/or narcissism is a total blind spot for the e7...NOT this 'whoo yah were totally gay and sexual and narcissistic' are you kidding me? e7s are not out celebrating their *narcissism* like a sexual 9 with a connection to 3 might. e7s believe they are not narcissistic...and honestly many e7s are some of the most selfless people around. I feel you are confusing people that are truly trying to figure out their type or fix with what you want...with what you seemingly need e7 to be.

naturally, you're welcome to question my type, but given you typed me both as a 9w8 and Sp last, forgive me for being skeptical

Ahhh...aren't you a sneaky little 9? I see what you did there...do you? First you try to get some sort of jab in with regards to my typing-cred concerning sp-last for you... and to my response try and make it seem I took issue with you being a sx-dom. Clever...but I can certainly go back in time with some old post quotes and provide evidence as to which one of us has insisted all along you were a sx-dom...and which one of us did everything they could to shoot that down (who worked hard to discredit whom...)
