How much research went into the discovery of instinctual variants?

I suppose part of my question is: Do we all not have qualities of all three?

What is the history of instinctual variants? How did this theory arise?

I just had an epiphany this week wrt my dominant instinct.

I realized ive been fighting it my whole life (coz I was taught it was an immoral way of life) and that it is probably the cause why I struggle so with finding the motivation to do things that others find so easy to do. And that I easily have the motivation to do those same things when I look at them through the lens and motivation of my dominant instinct.

I'd say it gains you a *hell* of a lot, based on this.
