5) Caregiver (The Great Father)

I'm really wondering if these jungian archetypes relate to astrology. Channeling my strong 5 fixation...

I know Jung studied it himself along with the four elements which basically are expressed in the four functions:
 • intuition = fire (sexual mars)
 • sensing = earth (self-preserving)
 • feeling = water (sexual venus)
 • thinking = air (social)
Along with their yin and yang, introversion and extraversion. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a correlation to astrology here.

Astrology to Enneagram Correlation
Type One is Mercury - Virgo, Gemini
Type Two is The Moon - Cancer
Type Three is The Sun - Leo
Type Four is Neptune - Pisces
Type Five is Uranus - Aquarius
Type Six is Saturn - Capricorn, Aquarius
Type Seven is Jupiter - Sagittarius, Pisces
Type Eight is Mars - Scorpio, Aries
Type Nine is Venus - Libra, Taurus

The twelve different zodiac signs express twelve different personalities and can be seen described with specific archetypes and character traits.

Astrological Archetypes
Taurus: Farmer (Cook, Musician, Gardener, Security)
Cancer: Mother (Healer, Feeler, Protector, Self-Sacrificial)
Capricorn: Builder (Authority, Executive, Father, Manager)
Pisces: Martyr (Mystic, Dreamer, Poet, Romantic)
Libra: Judge (Lover, Artist, Peacemaker, Arbitrator)
Leo: King (Commanding, Performer, Affectionate, Prideful)
Aries: Warrior (Daredevil, Pioneer, Survivor, Impulsive)
Aquarius: Teacher (Revolutionary, Genius, Humanitarian, Scientist)
Sagittarius: Explorer (Traveler, Philosopher, Optimist, Athlete)
Virgo: Craftsman (Hermit, Server, Analyst, Self-Critic)
Gemini: Jester (Storyteller, Journalist, Communicator, Multi-faceted)
Scorpio: Actor (Detective, Sorcerer, Competitive, Intense)

Based on all of this, here is my guess...

{Sun}
Leo: King = Ruler
{Venus}
Taurus: Farmer = Innocent
Libra: Judge = Lover
{Moon}
Cancer: Mother = Caregiver
{Saturn}
Capricorn: Builder = Creator
{Uranus}-{Saturn}
Aquarius: Teacher = Everyman
{Neptune}-{Jupiter}
Pisces: Martyr = Outlaw
{Jupiter}
Sagittarius: Explorer = Explorer
{Mars}
Aries: Warrior = Hero
Scorpio: Actor = Magician
{Mercury}
Virgo: Craftsman = Sage
Gemini: Jester = Jester

With the planet configuration it would turn out on the Enneagram to look like this:

Type 1: Sage, Jester (Mercury)
Type 2: Caregiver (Moon)
Type 3: Ruler (Sun)
Type 4: Outlaw (Neptune)
Type 5: Everyman (Uranus)
Type 6: Creator, Everyman (Saturn)
Type 7: Explorer, Outlaw (Jupiter)
Type 8: Magician, Hero (Mars)
Type 9: Lover, Innocent (Venus)

Seems close to the mark.

Four Elements of Typology - Google Docs

That is one comprehensive Google Doc - top work! And youre right, archetypes seem to match up with the Zodiac. Altho not like for like, at least in my case.

tommyc Haha, thank you! It doesn't match up perfectly for me either, unfortunately. Interesting that even if something represents a thing that doesn't mean it is that thing. Shows how multi-faceted we really are. Think that's important to remember. I notice that with some aspects of typology as well. Like for instance, I'm a type 9 but in many ways that isn't good enough. The type is known as not very introspective and yet I feel that I am and that I know other 9's which are as well. I also have a really high 1 and 5 which for a long time made me think I was one of the two. Then, you see these people expanding the typology systems like with the tritypes and making correlations and even that isn't good enough. Thought this chart would just be an interesting way to see on a more simple level where we're going with each correlation and representation. It makes it a lot harder to say I'm this thing or that or a combination of all these things. Where it may be better to say we're a representation or that we express characteristics of a specific pattern, maybe most similar to a certain type. Symbols are interesting to observe in this way, but they're also limiting. At least with language.

stoic Yeh, if youre not a clear type fit in one system that tends to follow thru all systems. Reading down that list I associate with a mix of column two and three. On a elements basis Im rain, or sparkling water :D

2) Your enneagram tritype: 496
3) Mbti: INFP
4) Your jungian archetype: im not sure actually, can see myself in a lot of them. Test gives me Wise Old Man (Sage)
5) Second most fitting archetype: ...and "Innocent Child" about almost equally
6) Other notes: I have a hard time strongly resonating with one or two jungian archetypes, there are always some things that I just can't connect with.

The test I took I was the Rebel, I see people aren't listing that as a type. Maybe I'm the Outlaw then.

4) Your jungian archetype: The caregiver

5) Second most fitting archetype: The Innocent

6) Other notes: the caregiver and the innocents are the only most describes me than other archetype but possible the lover too. The caregiver and the innocent relate to me but I’m not sure if the caregiver is my first jungian archetype because I’m not very paying attention others' needs and I’m very paying attention my personal identity, values and beliefs than other needs but I’m sure the caregiver and the innocent relate to me.

6) To be honest, I feel like I fit way more archetypes than these two - including also: The Creator, The Sage, The Magician, The Destroyer. Like, I'm not two dimensional.

Hi! I know this is an old thread, but has there been any more debate/introduction/presentation/analysis about the Archetypes? RadicalDoubt, can you point me to any other source apart from the 2 links of the OP? Anyway, thanks for starting this.

I've been for quite a time into typology but I'm also a novel writer and use the Hero's Journey paradigm extensively, so I find this type-to-archetype matching fascinating. stoic, thanks for the link to the Google Docs file, I still have to digest it, very information dense.

No, I sort of forgot about it tbh, however I still have the stats document I was using so I could fix that up in my leisure. Atm I don't have more sources than that, since it was awhile ago, but if I get back to my previous material and find other sources I can provide.

Guess it makes sense lol, I've heard of puer aeternus being an archetype too and that one fits me too but I don't see it here. Cool thread, may do more research on these later.
