Dead tree in a swamp.

...I think swamps are beautiful. So quiet but so much going on under the surface. Also it’s where lotus flowers grow.

Soeaking of lotus flowers, this is Ren. My obligatory favorite table-top character. We fleshed out quite an amazing story with him.

How to differentiate between art and craft? Artist and artisan?
Art scope is extensive. We can say anything artistic as an art. Taekwondo, Karate, Aikido, Ju Jut su, Shaolin Kung Fu, Judo, Krav Maga,Jeet Kune Do, Muay Thai, Pencak Silat, etc, are classified as martial arts while painting, photography, drawing as visual arts. Dancing (any kind), music (any genre), drama/movie/acting (any genre), puppet theater, are classified as performing arts. Animation like Japanese manga is also classified as an art. Calligraphy, origami are also classified as an artwork. Artisan and craftsman is somewhat similar. They are artist who specially works in making artistic piece. Sculptor, Metalsmith, Wood/stone carver, are examples of artisan / craftsman.

The first is more concerned with aesthetic value, the second with practical value. Obviously many items can fall into both categories, e.g. decorative pottery used to store food items.

So if something is meant to to appeal to our aesthetics thru our senses it is art, and if it appeals more to a utility/function but still requires hand skills to produce it is a craft.

And usually crafted pieces are produced in mass whereas each art piece is unique and distinct from the next.

Martial arts are then actually not arts but styles, they do not appeal to aesthetics but to a defensive or exercise utility.
