What are some of your unpopular movie opinions?

I think that American Reunion was the only good one of the American Pie movies.

There was another movie which was almost an American Pie movie but which was not the cast line up but was a sort of reunion/adulthood style movie but I cant remember what it was.

I love 300 Rise of an Empire more than 300

I hated Avatar

I laugh at the people that get worked up over Bravehart. I did at the theater, I do to this day.

I hated the Lord of the Rings movies. I don't even like to admit I saw them.

Napoleon Dynamite is fucking stupid.

I like the early Adam Sandler movies and I don't care that they're stupid.

Never got the appeal there. Lord of the Rings is the most boring series of people walking about with random fight sequences thrown in. LOTR and Star Wars are both terribly overrated.

I've seen Billy Madison and Haply Gilmore probably about a hundred times each, and certain party still make me laugh hysterically each time. The Wedding Singer and Anger Management are both decent as well. Really, everything after Mr. Deeds is where it all goes to hell.

Yes, exactly.

Good Will Hunting is overrated.

Not enough people have seen Her.

The Notebook was ruined by all the parts where they were old except when they died.

I have yet to be able to sit through a Star Wars movie. Same with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.

Studio Ghibli films are amazing even though they're geared towards children. (Howl's Moving Castle is full of deep symbolism, highly recommend)

If you don't cry when Ernest's dog turns into a wooden statue in Ernest Scared Stupid, then you have no soul. (To be fair, I was 6 years old when this came out)

Bonus: I've always hated Johnny Depp.

I really like movies that gross most people out. Like those early John Waters films. I can sit through them and not wince once.

I hate all super hero and action movies and want them to die in a raging forest fire.

Not a fan of Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings. Never got the appeal.

I like pretentious art house films.

I also like those 90s/early 2000s Adam Sandler films. Me and my sister would watch them constantly growing up. They are our guilty pleasures.

Additionally, no newer Hollywood movies attract me for some reason. I generally prefer watching old movies I haven't seen yet to watching the newest, released flick out on Netflix. Not really controversial I guess, but just something I've noticed about myself in comparison to many others around me.

Paranormal Activity sucks. So boring..... apparently boring means scary to some people if you throw in people talking about demons and stupid cloven hoof flour prints every fifteen minutes.

Avatar is pretty terrible. Sure, the planet looked cool, but the storyline was the most rote, trite shit imaginable. I guess at the time people thought it was "brilliant" political commentary. Also, Sam Worthington was supposed to be the next big star in Hollywood, despite being boring AF. (As a general rule, I think James Cameron needs to stay away from political commentary. It has all the subtlety of being hit with a ten-ton load of bricks. Yes, I get it, rich men that use guns and technology to exploit the environment are bad. For what it's worth, I actually think his ex-wife is the better director. Not that all of Cameron's movies are terrible, it's just that even his 80s output tends to have moments of clichéd cringeworthy political commentary. Maybe at the time it wasn't so clichéd, though. But... Avatar has no excuse. We've already had stuff like Ferngully for years. I just wanted the story to do one thing I wouldn't expect and that I haven't seen in a zillion other movies. It didn't do that. )

Little Miss Sunshine was also really bad. I got pissed off when they killed off the only likeable interesting character for cheap "pathos." But man, it was so "edgy" sticking it to child beauty pageants. Don't get me started on that dumb subplot about the kid not being able to join the Air Force because he's color blind.

I also dislike Good Will Hunting immensely. I have nothing against Matt Damon or Robin Williams, I just kind of hate the movie. It sucks in spite of their presence.

Forrest Gump also blows chunks. Shitty overwrought baby boomer nostalgia porn that champions "plain-spoken" morons like Donald Trump and Dubya.

The Fountain is Darren Aronofosky's best film.

I enjoyed watching LOTR, but only because of the breathtaking scenery and good music. The plot is barely two-dimensional, and the characterizations are not very well developed. Star Wars is not as bad but also lacks subtlety, and is sexist (though this might be forgiven based on when it started).

I find James Bond movies vastly overrated - every single one.

I generally like Star Trek, but find the more recent movies have veered off course.

Star Wars, at least the original trilogy, seems like a very bland, vapid premise that just kind of resonated with a particular audience at the right time, and once they saw the potential monetary and merchasing goldmine they were sitting on, used the second trilogy to try to artificially add layers of depth and fill in the blanks in order to have something to expand upon (adding water to the Iced Tea to try to stretch it out).

The only Bond movie is really enjoyed was Casino Royale (Daniel Craig version) and that's mainly because LeChieffe seemed like such a composed and collected, yet menacing villain.

Hmmm...

I enjoyed Forrest Gump, but I thought it was a bit overkill. To me, it seemed like the creators sat down and said "Hey let's see how many references to pop culture and historical events over the last few decades that we can cram into a few hours." It just seemed very forced at times.

The shaky cam in the first Hunger Games movie was awful. I'm not sure if this is unpopular, but I have a few friends who really loved it. I hated that it took away the clarity. I wanted to see exactly what was happening. The only time it made sense was during the Tracker Jacker scene because those stings cause hallucinations and poor vision.

I perder classic, hand drawn animation over CGI. I actually don't really like CGI all that much, probably because I've seen a lot of bad CGI in my life.

I don't like Wall-E. I usually like Disney Pixar films, but not this one. My main complaints were with its pacing. Plus, it was just too slow and didn't really capture my interest. Plus, it sort of failed at its attempt of social satire. It just seemed condescending and whacked to me.
Also, films remade in different countries with different cultural contexts are usually terrible ideas. Every time I hear about one, I cringe. I'm not saying all of these fail, but the ones I've seen often miss the point and miss out on a lot of the cultural nuance you can learn from the original that just doesn't translate over well, both linguistically and culturally.

I also am not very harsh on the Twilight movies. Well, I haven't seen any of them in their entirety. But, they didn't have the best quality source material. I mean, sparky vampires? Come on, that's the dumbest thing I've ever read in a fantasy novel. No offense to the author. So, I cut everyone involved some slack.

I'm also not a very big fan of live action remakes of animated films. It just seems sort of pointless to me and signals that that the studio has run out of ideas.

I thought Meet Joe Black was a good movie

I've never cared for any of Tim Burton's films or his style. Vastly overrated to me

I didn't care for the Paranormal Activity movies at all.

I actually thought the Sinister movies were interesting (albeit not really scary at all)

All I can think of for right now. I'm otherwise a conventional movie goer

Reboots are not always good but I liked the remake of Clash of the Titans (Sam Worthington) even though I grew up with the original (Harry Hamlin) and it will always be a favorite movie of mine, claymation and all.

I love micro budget movies. Yes the acting is often bad, and the special effects worse, but they are often much bolder and more original than big budget movies.

I liked Terminator Genisys. It was basically Terminator 5, and after that many sequels you need to shake things up to put a little freshness back into a franchise. I thought the scrambled time-lines idea was a reasonable way of doing that.

Fuck Avatar. Long and boring.

I thought Skyfall was better than Casino Royale, in large part because of the cinematography, Bardem channeling Julian Assange (remember when a certain segment of the left looked at him as a kind of hero?), and the only Adele song I like.

.

If you don't mind, I'd be interested in hearing more of your views about sexism in Star Wars. A lot of women see Leia as a feminist icon. The most sexist thing I noticed in the first two movies is Han Solo's attitude towards Leia, although he's kind of held up as an object of ridicule. He's sort of portrayed as a cocky braggart who isn't as badass as he thinks he is. ROTJ has more problems, though. The new movies aren't sexist at all and actually have a lot of alt-right types pissed off. I read one article that suggested alt-right trolls created bots to downvote the latest movie on Rotten Tomatoes because it promoted an "SJW agenda."

I don't know that Star Trek, from what I know of it, has an especially great track record on sexism until DS9. But, I'm open to my view being changed.

I think Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome is a good film and unfairly maligned.

Requiem For A Dream is shallow trash masquerading as deep commentary, and everything that director does is garbage.

Most recent Star was movie was terrible both as a film and as a Star Wars installation.

Movies about movies or actors (Birdman), or 'movies for people who make movies' are insufferably self serving.

All marvel movies that aren't Deadpool are awful.

The Watchmen is the best super hero flick ever made.

Avatar was awful.

Titanic was amazing, love story and all.

Alien Resurrection is still a really fun film and I respect what the director was trying to achieve.

I find crude comedy movies (stuff like hot fuzz, superbad, anything with will farrel, etc.) to be deeply unfunny and offensive. Refuse to remain in the same room when those are on TV.
