i know you're there
i wish you'd talk
should i stay on or should i get off?

roll over to me, roll over
roll over to me, roll over

but there is nothing i'd rather do
than spend all day in the sack with you
i want to mess up my sheets with you
there is nothing i'd rather doooo.
-mirah, 100 knives.

Someone's knockin on my kitchen door
Leave the wood outside
What all the girls here are freezing cold
Leave me with your Borneo
I don't need much to keep me warm

Don't stop now what you're doin
What you're goin my ugly one
Bring them all here
Hard to hid a hundred girls in your hair
It won't be fair if I hate her
If I ate her you can go now

You're already in there
I'll be wearing your tatoo
You're already in there

Got a cloud sleeping on my tongue
He goes then it goes and kiss the violets
As they're waking up

Leave me with your Borneo
Leave me the way I was before

You're already in there
I'll be wearing your tatoo
I'm already in
Circles and circles and circles again
The girl's in

Not sure why, but this one...

Crime Pays - Fr/action

Now we live in desperate times
Standing ground behind the lines
Watch your back
Obey the signs
Can't avoid the futile crimes

Laws will pass
So laws will break
Pay the price for one mistake
What you've earned someone will take
Realize the games we make

Life's short, and time will fly
Years pass before our eyes
Stand now and wonder why
Crime pays, and then you die

Things change, but in the end
Fair play cannot contend
Believe you will ascend
Crime pays, I can't pretend

Sure, if enjoying lyrics makes one an INFP ;). The thread says 'lyrics that won't leave me alone' anyway...and these won't leave me alone (much as with most of her music) because they're so opaque that definite meaning is difficult to extract from them.

They're interesting. If that makes me an NF then so be it (the better for NF's).

Every time I try to pick it up like falling sand
As fast as I pick it up it runs away from my clutching hands

There's nothing else I can really do
There's nothing else I can really do at all

what do you think they mean?

I don't think that they mean any one thing. And if you're asking for my personal interpretation, I'm sorry to disappoint but I don't have one. What makes them so appealing to me is simply the fact that they have such flexible meaning. And also because I find the contrast of words to be stimulating.

I'm not generally someone who pays attention to lyrics in the music I listen to. Still, this particular song stays with me and hits me in the gut because I see myself in it.

She was sixteen and six feet tall
In a crowd of teenagers comin' out of the zoo
She stumbled started to slip and fall
Teeter-tottered on the top of patent leather shoes
I happened to catch her and said,
"maybe these ruby shoes are a little cumbersome for you"

Maybe for you, now

But not as shaky as I must have seemed
Talkin' junk through her giggle, little teenage dream
And on the phone I could not compete
My dumb-love fake competence was getting weak
For a sec' I thought I sounded sweet
But sure 'nough in a gruff, faint voice
I heard myself speak

[Chorus:]
I could stay a while
But sooner or later I'll break your smile
And I can tell a joke
But one of these days I'm bound to choke
And we could share a kiss
But I feel like I can't go through with this
And I bet we could build a home
But I know the right thing for me to do
Is to leave you alone

Leave you alone, now

I'm beginning to like you
So you probably won't get what I'm going to do
I'm walkin' away from you
It probably don't make much sense to you
But I'm trying to save you
From all of the things that I'll probably say or do

I'll probably do

[Chorus:]
I could stay a while
But sooner or later I'll break your smile
And I can tell a joke
But one of these days I'm bound to choke
And we might share a kiss
But I feel like a can't go through with this
And I bet we could build a home
But I know the right thing for me to do
Is to leave you alone

Leave you alone, now

You'll probably call me a fool
And say I'm doin' exactly what a coward would do
And I'm beginning to like you
It's a shame what a lame way to live
But what can I do?
I hope you appreciate what I do

I'm a martyr for my love for you
A martyr for my love for you, now
A martyr for my love for you
A martyr for my love for you

Really? You don't pay attention to the lyrics? They're just as musical as the music.

I've always had respect for the stripes.

What's he doing in this song, though? He likes her and yet he's peacing. Why?

I agree that lyrics are just as musical as the music. But I hear the voice as just another instrument unless the lyrics really speak to me. There's lots of music I love that I could never enjoy if I actually listened to what the lyrics mean.

And he does like her, which is why he doesn't want to do her wrong in the end. The narrator has a habit of bailing out of relationships when he has a crisis of confidence. And he wants to save this girl the hurt that is coming to her down the line by getting out before anyone is too invested. I admit that my reading of the lyrics is colored by the fact that I do this exact same thing :)

Yeah, sometimes the lyrics can kill a song that's really strong musically (if you choose to interpret them).

I like vocals, but the confines created by language and especially rhyming is limiting musically.
