I've watched a few episodes. I don't know about arrogant, I've not seen McFarlane in anything else, but my own criticism is that he seems too awkward/stiff and uncomfortable to be a primary character. It disrupts suspension of disbelief for me. Maybe it can be worked into qualities to give his character depth - like Barkley, TNG - but it initially comes across as merely bad acting, imo. The kind of bad acting where I half expect him to accidentally look at the camera or something.
