Witches gather at midnight to cast spell on Donald Trump | Daily Mail Online

Witches encouraged by Lana Del Rey gather at midnight to hex the president outside Trump Tower... but they can't conjure up much of a crowd

There was much fanfare when witches across the world - and singer Lana Del Rey - pledged to stand together and cast a spell on President Donald Trump on Friday night.

But it seems the self-proclaimed witches gathered outside Trump Tower in New York couldn't conjure up much of a crowd.

There was only a handful of people gathered outside the president's Manhattan Midtown penthouse as witches worldwide prepared to cast a magic spell at midnight.

Men and women had pledged to cast spells under the crescent moon in a bid to stop Trump from doing harm while also possibly banishing him from office.

The first one was scheduled for Friday night and is set to be followed by similar spells cast on March 26, April 24 and May 23.

While the New York turnout may not have lived up to the hype, social media was flooded with photos of witches posting photos of their set up, with many using the hashtags #bindtrump and #feb24.

Lana del Rey had earlier tweeted a photo of herself with the caption: 'At the stroke of midnight Feb 24, March 26, April 24, May 23... Ingredients can b found online.'

Her tweet appeared to be referencing the spell being shared by the witchcraft community online as they prepared to hex Trump.

Instructions on how to carry out the binding spell went viral earlier in the week and a Facebook group titled Bind Trump was set up designed to answer people's questions.

Among the objects required to complete the spell was an unflattering photo of Trump, a tiny orange candle, a Tower tarot card and bowls of water and salt.

A pin, which is used to carve Trump's name on the candle, was also required.

The instructions stated that the items should be arranged around the individual in a pleasing position along with a feather, a white candle and an ashtray or dish filled with sand.

From there, a prayer for protection was to be said by all participants before they launched into the chant, which was allegedly created by a member of a private magical order.

In one refrain, the witches were to chant: 'I call upon you / To bind / Donald J. Trump / So that he may fail utterly / That he may do no harm/To any human soul.'

The second verse tackled a different issues, with the lines: 'Bind him so that he shall not break our polity / Usurp our liberty / Or fill our minds with hate, confusion, fear, or despair.'

People are really getting desperate. Not sure this helps their cause so much.

How to Cast a Spell On Donald Trump - Witches Cast Anti-Trump Magic Spells

Those who don't like Donald Trump and the current Republican administration are mobilizing in all sorts of ways. They're speaking up in town halls and calling their representatives. They're organizing protests and demonstrations. And, for the magically-inclined, they're casting spells.

Starting at midnight on Friday, witches around the country are calling for a mass spell to be cast on Donald Trump every night of a waning crescent moon until he's driven from office.

The spell was publicized by Michael M. Hughes, who told ELLE.com that it was tweaked from multiple spells he saw going around private witchcraft groups. He published it on Extra News Feed because he felt "it would be very welcome to a lot of people." It quickly spread, with events being formed around the country and support on social media.

Hughes explained that he chose a binding spell because "we're not wishing harm on anyone, we're just trying to stop the harm they're doing. It's not the equivalent of punching a Nazi in the face, it's the equivalent of tying him up and taking his bullhorn away."

The ritual itself is pretty standard magic working, binding Trump from doing harm to others and to himself, rather than asking any forces to do harm to him. There are objects to represent the elements and to represent Trump himself. The tarot card of the Tower represents ambitions built on lies, which are struck down by a lightning flash of truth. For those who believe in witchcraft, it looks to be an effective spell.

However, even for those who don't, the ritual can have meaning. Witches have gathered to create spells for social justice before, whether it was to hex convicted rapist Brock Turner or exorcise the Pentagon. "My feeling was people were feeling so helpless in the face of all this," said Hughes, who sees the ritual, as much as anything, as a self-exorcism. "So many of us are overwhelmed by this guy's face, this energy―it's ever present and beating a lot of us down. I see this as a way of people reclaiming their own power...it's not just that we can stop him, but we can expunge him from ourselves."

People get together for prayer circles too, praying against particular administrations.
(Well, they say it's 'for', but you know how it goes if you've ever been part of that.)

who cares. It's all the same old supplication to supernatural forces.

I wouldn't be surprised if CNN reports this immature hilarious behaviour positively.

You can't watch anything on CNN these days without them relating that story to Trump in a negative light. It's absolutely garbage these days.

It's not uncommon for witches to come together for bindings like this, if there is enough of a common goal

It seems like people who love Satan hate Donald Trump....Christians, as a group, would usually be praying to give wisdom to their leaders.

I saw the story and was like "Thalassa!" I wouldn't even know who Lana Del Ray is if it wasn't for her.

Behind closed doors, witches will sacrifice a goat and drink its blood

Kind of like in public killing the lamb of god and eating his body and drinking his blood in memoriam, repeatedly?

... Man, I can never tell when you're joking.

But it's kind of ridiculous to say "all witches" as much as it is to say "all christians." My cousin actually is a witch and was involved in rituals when she was active in her coven, but they were simply naturalistic and had nothing to do with killing and eating animals. If you are being serious, you've probably been reading too many Chick tracts.

Basically, there's a lot of folks trying to assert control over a world they have no control over. it makes them feel empowered or at least like they are "doing something" and even expressing their values. People might not even be adhering to a particular religion by their behavior, they are just using its trappings to feel powerful or effective or control something beyond themselves. Or to generate buzz for their viewpoints.

Why is being a witch more absurd than any other religion? People pray to stop leaders.

Even the Dalai Lama goes into meditative states to absorb the negative energy of Chinese leaders in hopes of helping to clear their minds when they make decisions that could impact Tibet. Is he immature, absurd, and crazy?

This is actually hilarious, but it is the real thing...

The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth

Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.
Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.
When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there.
If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.
Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.
Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved.
Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.
Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.
Do not harm little children.
Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.

The 13 Principles of Wiccan Belief:

1. We practice rites to attune ourselves with the natural rhythm of life forces marked by the phases of the Moon and the seasonal Quarters and Cross Quarters.

2. We recognize that our intelligence gives us a unique responsibility toward our environment. We seek to live in harmony with nature in ecological balance offering fulfillment to life and consciousness within an evolutionary concept.

3. We acknowledge a depth of power far greater than that apparent to the average person. Because it is far greater than ordinary it is sometimes called ‘supernatural’, but we see it as lying within that which is naturally potential to all.

4. We conceive of the Creative Power in the universe as manifesting through polarity – as masculine and feminine – and that this same Creative Power lies in all people and functions through the interaction of the masculine and the feminine. We value neither above the other knowing each to be supportive of the other. We value sex as pleasure as the symbol and embodiment of life, and as one of the sources of energy used in magical practice and religious worship.

5. We recognize both outer worlds and inner, or psychological worlds sometimes known as the Spiritual World, the Collective Unconsciousness, the Inner Planes etc – and we see in the interaction of these two dimensions the basis for paranormal phenomena and magical exercises. We neglect neither dimension for the other, seeing both as necessary for our fulfillment.

6. We do not recognize any authoritarian hierarchy, but do honor those who teach, respect those who share their greater knowledge and wisdom, and acknowledge those who have courageously given of themselves in leadership.

7. We see religion, magick and wisdom in living as being united in the way one views the world and lives within it – a world view and philosophy of life which we identify as Witchcraft – the Wiccan Way.

8. Calling oneself ‘Witch’ does not make a Witch – but neither does heredity itself, nor the collecting of titles, degrees and initiations. A Witch seek to control the forces within her/himself that make life possible in order to live wisely and without harm to others and in harmony with nature.

9. We believe in the affirmation and fulfillment of life in a continuation of evolution and development of consciousness giving meaning to the Universe we know and our personal role within it.

10. Our only animosity towards Christianity, or towards any other religion or philosophy of life, is to the extent that its institutions have claimed to be ‘the only way’ and have sought to deny freedom to others and to suppress other ways of religious practice and belief.

11. As American Witches, we are not threatened by debates on the history of the craft, the origins of various terms, the legitimacy of various aspects of different traditions. We are concerned with our present and our future.

12. We do not accept the concept of absolute evil, nor do we worship any entity known as ‘Satan’ or ‘the Devil’ as defined by Christian tradition. We do not seek power through the suffering of others, nor accept that personal benefit can be derived only by denial to another.

13. We believe that we should seek within Nature that which is contributory to our health and well-being.

The supernatural realm is hidden from those who do not wish to see it. This results in spiritual retardation which causes them to believe that pretending to be Harry Potter is the same as anything else. The differences exist, though, despite the fact that some can't perceive them.

Do you think that all expressions of the Occult are "playing Harry Potter", or just certain examples like Lana Del Ray?
