My copy of "Weapons of Choice" finally arrived from Amazon after what seemed like an eternal waiting period.

The front cover blurb says it is a "weapons-grade military techno-thriller... it's like a Clive Cussler novel fell into a transporter beam with a Stephen Ambrose history, and they came out all fused together."

Kind of like The Fly, but without the disgusting appearance.

So we have two time-lines, one that occurs in the year 2021, and another that occurs in 1942 (WWII).

We have two fleets of ships. The 2021 fleet is a naval armada consisting of a number of countries united to free Indonesia from the Islamic scourge.

The 1942 fleet consists of an American fleet heading toward the Battle of Midway.

In 2021, unknown to most people, the multi-national naval armada is planning to test a fantastically advanced weapon that uses quantum mechanics to create a wormhole capable of delivering a deadly weapon anywhere in the world. But when the device is brought into motion, all hell breaks loose. The entire armada is transported to 1942, right in the midst of the American invasion fleet. Nobody knows what the hell is going on. Most of the ships arrive in 1942 intact. One of them ends up embedded in a ship from the era, spliced together in a scissor-like shape. One of the 2021 ships is cut in two, and explodes dramatically with the loss of most of the lives on board. Three of the 2012 ships are missing. The 1942 Americans, although unaccustomed to seeing such advanced battleships and carriers suddenly all around them, believe they are of Japanese origin (because one of them is flying a flag that looks like the Rising Sun of the Japanese army) and begin to open fire on the 2021 fleet. The people from 2021 don't know what's happening, but in defense they return fire using their advanced 21st century weaponry, and destroy the American fleet.

And so it begins...
