Maybe an obvious, cliched example, but:

Dylan Thomas said:
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I used to think of this as just being an exhortation to live your life as best and as fully as you can, but re-reading it now, there's a lot more going on. Maybe I can think about that later.

Made for a game of Bouts-Rimés, in which I was given the following words to end each line of a sonnet with:

Jingle
Cat
Mingle
Splat

Wombat
Remonstrate
Combat
Defenestrate

Sock
Ghost
Mock
Toast

Wut
But

Side note, could be a fun thread idea -- starting a forum game of Bouts-Rimés.

CREATION

Profuse and misused
Is the pitter patter
On the lazy pane
Abundant
Artistic strain.

Phlegmatic army
Bloodless in its volley,
But stubborn in its gift:
Outpour creating
A blanket of melancholy.

When the torrent lets
And retreats into peaceful calm,
The heart rejoices to see
What nurturing pain
In reverting
Fertilized.

I was inspired just minutes ago, so I have no title yet. Here are some words from my heart:

I was trapped in a cage
With the PAIN and the RAGE
Of an animal caught
From the wild - and I fought
With the million chains
That were bound to the heart,
For I knew that someday
I would break them apart!

EDIT: I know what to call it now - "The Battle Within".
