Izaya is much more godlike (in japanese terms) in that he orchestrates situations that brings out peoples true identities and feelings. He is a fixer, not a destroyer.
And he really does love humanity.
Although durarara is deliberately totally over the top and discussing character tropes from this anime is pretty much pointless, I personally relate most to izaya, I quite like the guy. He is probably the only reason I finished watching the first three seasons (durarara and durarara x2 shou). I probably wouldnt have been pulled in if he wasnt part of the anime. As the rest of the characters are, while mildly entertaining, not that interesting to me.
Waiting for the fourth (x2 ten) to finish before Im watching that one though.

I see him as the Shakespeare of the show he does not judge their choices he sees the result of people's and he seems to criticize humanity for not admitting certain secrets, for being weak and others. There is a lot of truth in what he says even if it ticks people off
