Lost another one. :(

Terry Pratchett, author of more than 70 books including the popular Discworld fantasy series, has died at his home, his publisher said Thursday.

Pratchett had early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, which he called an “embuggerance.” He died with his family and beloved cat with him.

Pratchett “enriched the planet like few before him,” said Publishers Transworld managing director Larry Finlay. “All who read him know, Discworld was his vehicle to satirize this world: he did so brilliantly, with great skill, enormous humor and constant invention.”..

British fantasy author Terry Pratchett dies at age 66

Dammit. 66 is not old at all. I hate Alzheimer's.

I remember first reading "The Color of Magic", it reminded me of Piers Anthony but actually good. His stuff just got better from there beyond my expectations.

can I offer another author in his place? :sadbanana:

Damn, but... yeah.

I'm just not sure what offering a trade of E. L. James would do for us. :(
We might have to trade 10 junk authors for the price of one Pratchett.

I was going to offer Stephanie Meyer... that makes two now... 8 more and we get a good writer back?

*crosses fingers*

seriously... who else can make you laugh and think BOTH that much? :(

I think we're speaking of an author who might APPRECIATE snarky comments at his wake

also, Tim LaHay and Jerry Jenkins...

Don't forget Danielle Steele, Clive Cussler, and Nicholas Sparks.

How many are we up to now?

I'll count LaHaye/Jenkins as one, which is like a freebie for whoever has Pratchett's soul under wraps.

So that would be eight.

We can also provide substitutions if necessary.

we need one more... can we just throw in all of those who write bodice rippers and count them as one? the covers all look the same...

Oh, Great A'Tuin, I hope she doesn't take over the Discworld universe. We need to let these franchises go with their authors.

eh, hem, Brian Herbert, go away.

Bah, but how will she ever learn independence and pride without creating her own incredibly successful fantasy franchise? Ah well, I'll brace myself.

Sad news.

Glad I recently purchased the Discworld collection. I'm still missing seven books though. =\

To a great man who has shaped my humor and sense of perspective from childhood, and probably that of so many others, you'll be missed
