i'm looking forward to it. the storyline sounds better than the last two sequels. too bad it doesn't have an R rating. i'm tired of seeing these vicious monsters being all politically correct and not killing women and children. not that i want to see women and children getting killed, but in the wild, it's usually the most vulnerable who get eaten first. even jaws understood this; although in shark-infested waters, pretty much everyone is equally f*cked. with this huge crowd of visitors, it's going to be really stupid and redundant if the dinosaurs run around picking off adult males like a buffet. aside from that, i hope they don't have any cheesy action sequences intended to build suspense while inevitably sparing the lives of the main cast (e.g., velociraptor attacks person and gnaws on her backpack instead of her head...and she escapes; or little girl defeats several raptors by doing gymnastics.)

I'm seeing it; I don't even care how stupid it looks. I have a love of dinosaurs that goes back to my childhood. Dinosaurs eating people = yes.

Still, it'd be nice if they didn't make everything CGI. The animatronics were what made the original Jurassic Park so great.

Jurrasic Universe! Mine! I came up with it, I have proof now, and I get the royalties! Or or or... Jurassic Galaxy!! Where the dinosaurs travel from planet to planet! Yeah! Our dinosaurs see that the meteor is coming, so they have to formulate a plot to save themselves and their futures so they force all of the pterydactyls to lift them off and carry them out into outer space and then they travel from planet to planet to search for a place to live and along the way! And since the dinosaurs have left then that means that the humans are able to thrive, but now the dinosaurs are getting homesick so they decide to come back and we end up having to fight the dinosaurs in DINO WAR I or the WAR BETWEEN the SPECIES and thats what the movie will be about.


Or maybeee the dinosaurs can be the planets and because of all the pollution and global warming the Tyrannasourus EARTH wakes up and it wants to destroy usss... -hmm wait actually that sounds like the plot to some other movie that I saw where the guy came to eart and said that he was here to save earth but he was actually coming to save earth from the humans and no one knew until the end and they had to like convince him of how special the humans were by showing like the power of love or something and he was kinda like uhhh fine Ill let u guys live as long as you become like feral and live off the land.

i was referring to a scene from the lost world. having found the clip, however, i stand corrected; it was one velociraptor, not several. and the backpack scenario was in that film, as well.

I hope so. Angelina Jolie sure looked and acted the part, but the movies themselves were terrible. Meanwhile, the reboot / pre-game with her as a teenager was just a very tremendous game, very high game reviews.

yeah, lara croft in the jolie movies was a bit too over-sexualized and focused on fashion to be taken seriously as a famed adventurer/archaeologist.

of course, that was partly because she was over-sexualized in the original games. there's a lot of potential to make a respectable franchise out of the reboot if they lay off the cheesy, unrealistic stunts. that's what annoyed the most about the indiana jones series; not the supernatural elements, but the absurdly cartoonish action sequences.

Looks like the review embargo has finally lifted and now commentaries are pouring onto the Internet in last-minute prep for this week's release. And the world collectively says... meh.

Finally saw this today (IMAX 3D).

it was fun but without as much depth as the first movie basically.

Things I liked (and yes, there are spoilers):

- Callbacks to the original movie, including the boys finding bones of one of the original velociraptors, I think; and the jeeps; and then of course the fact that the original T-Rex is still around, scars and all. Booya!

- Building off audience knowledge to do something new, such as the velociraptor background and how they work.

- The boys batterying up the old jeep on their own.

- Owen being the alpha raptor.... most of the time. What a badass. It was fun to figure out on my own the first time I saw it in the trailer, and -- totally cool idea. The individual raptors were cool too.

- Claire's slow transformation. She's the only character (aside from the boys, I guess) who has any kind of growth shift in the movie.

- Triceratopseses! My favorite dinosaur.

- Ignoring Jurassic Park 2 & 3 as if they never happened.

- Brad Bird narrating the monorail.

- I felt bad for Zara, mainly because I could put myself in her shoes, but... that was A Most Spectacular Death, from the "Oh Shit" of getting tossed into the Mosasaurus lagoon to start with, to being plucked from the water and fought over by pteranadons in the air multiple times, to then just when you think the last pterandon is carrying her off to its own private perch, the mosasaurus comes up out of the water and eats both of them. Good grief.

- The last fight. Kind of predictable, but also still pretty fun. (And I should have seen the Deep Blue Sea ending coming, and did in hindsight. But I got a good jump out of it at least. I think the movie was a 3 HoMM* rating for me.)

Things I hated:

- Crappy dialogue. At best, it was sufficient and didn't distract; at worst, it was really stiff and/or lame.

- Stupidity. In the first movie, the scientists screwed up Because Hubris. They didn't think about how dinosaurs could reproduce as a side effect of frog DNA. Here they didn't make a mistake; they were just completely irresponsible and didn't give a shit. That's pretty unrealistic to me. Stupid Evil is not a genuine alignment, in a serious movie, evil and amoral people are smarter about their interests... so this degraded the quality of this movie.

- Too much blatant redshirting. Even among the "main" cast, you knew exactly who would get eaten and who would not be touched. This wasn't as much the case in JP one although it was a given the lawyer would bite it.

- Judy Greer crying over the phone. It was too quick a flip and pretty cray. I honestly thought that after she hung up, she'd go straight-faced normal and chat just fine with her husband, and we'd see she was manipulating Claire based on some old sister interplay... but no, that would have been too nuanced.

- Crappy dialogue. wait, I already said that.

- Stupid billionaire owner tries to fly a chopper even thought he doesn't quite have his license.. a chopper with a minigun of some kind mounted out one side. Isn't there recoil from that thing? So he can't even hold the copter steady on a normal flight, and now he's supposed to fly it when the recoil from the gun firing out just one side of the copter? Of course, he goes down because the pteranodons missile him. But still. He wasn't evil, just Amoral Stupid.

- One-dimensional characterization.

I also witnessed the power of editing, once again.

That stupid clip of Claire and Owen talking, released shortly before the film came out, where he sounds like a misogynist ass? Turns out that that scene comes after both of their characters are established in the movie, and by that point we know she's kind of a workaholic flake and he's actually a pretty decent / respectful human being, so in the movie it comes off more like he's just taking a few deserved pokes at her because she was such a flake on their single date, just to needle her a little.

I thought I recognized the boys. The eldest was the lead in the movie, "The Kings of Summer."

The younger one was the son in the Insidious movies.

definitely worth seeing in imax. too bad it lacks the spielbergian touch.

this is the second time that bryce dallas howard and judy greer have played sisters, the first being 'the village'.

things i liked and disliked (off the top of my head)

liked

- the concept of the park being opened and functional for years, even though it's a bit unbelievable in light of the events in the previous movies.

- the technology in the park

- the idea of genetically engineering a t-raptor/velocirex

- trained velociraptors with body cameras

- the modern aesthetic of the park

- the dinosaurs actually killed someone other than an adult male

- the two main characters are likeable enough

- although it made me sad, i liked how the apex predator was killing for sport

there were other things i liked that i can't recollect, which brings me to my first dislike.

dislike

- the movie is easily forgettable. when i first saw jurassic park, i watched it every day for a week and it consumed my life for at least a month. hours after watching jurassic world, it was't even on my mind.

- the characterization is weak and the dialogue, at times, is distractingly bad.

- some of the attempts at humor felt forced and fell flat, like a romcom, compared to ian malcom's brand of romance.

- when claire let the t-rex out of its enclosure, it didn't attack her. doesn't seem like the same t-rex from the first movie that was always looking for a tasty treat. i'd eat claire....i mean if i was a dinosaur.

- vincent d'onofrio had the potential to make a great villain, but it was lost on bad writing. and his manner of death was really disappointing

- not enough people died. supposedly, the death count was around 20+, but i can only recall about 5. there were hundreds of people in the park.

- it should've been a lot more violent like the first movie. i don't even like gore, but dinosaurs are running amok and it's an 'all you can eat' buffet. too much implied violence, like a little kid whose parents are covering their eyes during the bad parts.

- too much cgi and not enough puppets or animatronics

Yeah, we have mainly the same list, and there were things you mention that I didn't quite specify that I had the same opinion of.

There should have been a LOT of deaths. And not just from dinosaurs, but heart attacks, people getting trampled, etc.

About Claire and the paddock:

The T-Rex WAS chasing her to eat her. It's just that somehow she managed to outrun it while wearing heels. I liked that she held the flare, just like in the old movie -- since even if now it is questionable science, it's playing off the idea that movement gets its attention.

Part of it is the lack of depth in the shot -- you'll see this in a lot of movies, where it looks like something is right behind someone, but if you then pull back to a side or above shot (rather than head-on), you'll see there's a lot more space there than you thought. So the T-Rex never caught up to her, although it should be moving faster than her.

But yes, it tried to snack on her, and she ran it towards Indomitus, where then it became a Queen Bee scenario and Claire was forgotten.
