I am assuming this is the German team since Angela Merkel is standing in the middle.
Yes, the German team. The joke, of course, is the Brazzers logo on the bottom.

USA over Ghana. Yea we lost Jozy Altidor, but Portugal has injuries of their own, and a red card situation.

Im pretty confident about our chances against them on Sunday.

It's distressing how little people in this thread are actually talking about soccer.

Also, Germany's thumping of Portugal makes me less anxious about our chances to get out of the group of death.

One of the most annoying things about soccer (which I only watch during these big events) is the pseudo-professional opinionatedness displayed by the regular soccer fan. A bit more of it sure would make this thread more lively, though.

I prefer that to the A&E approach of which team has the hottest guys.

LOL @ USA team. Yeah, they won, because of the corner kick, but they were getting their asses reamed out there. They were outplayed, and Ghana mainly possessed the ball. Ghana had great strategy in moving the ball forward, but they were shit at the follow-through. Amazing plays, amazing set-ups, and then, misses, after misses. Which cost them. USA scrambled to get a thin slice of opportunity, but when they got it, they took it and succeeded. That was their saving grace.

I want to see USA get their asses handed to them, if not by Portugal, then Deutschland surely will make them pay. YES!!!

And now I give you, from Ghana:

Lol. It's easy to shift down a gear, when you score a goal in the first 30 seconds, and you lose one of your best strikers to injury.

We were on cruise control until Ghana had that beauty of a goal. But we turned it back on and scored again just a minute or two later off a beautiful set piece play.

You can talk about time of possession all you want, but look at the scoreboard honey. And we did this against the team that knocked us out of the last two world cups.

Talk about an ego boost!

The American Dream, basically.

His brother is part of the German team. Good genes.

I did not know that. Good thing Germany will not have to face Italy early on.

That, and redemption:

USA's swan song.

His brother is part of the German team. Good genes.

 but I find the not-so-little prince hotter than Jerome.

Pumpkin, this is not your grandma's backyard. This is FIFA World Cup. They were not on "cruise control"; you can believe that all you want, but they were scrambling. You could see it in their play. And, if what you say is correct, that they were on cruise control then it's a shame, because you don't come to FIFA, and play as if on "cruise control". Just for that, they should be taken out.

Then you do not have an appreciation for the game. If you think a scoreboard determines a good play.

In the words of Vince Lombardi: "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."

And last time I checked, the scoreboard determines the winner.

So, is it your contention that the scoreboard should not matter, and that some subjective assessment of who played better should determine the victor?

Way to knock down that straw man. I appreciate the game. I'm not the most knowledgeable soccer fan on the planet, but nowhere did I claim I was.

Feel free to show me where I stated that the scoreboard alone determines good play.

But yea go all ad hominem if you want. It's only soccer, and frankly I don't care that fucking much.

It seems all you want to do is shit on the US.

Before this turns into a cat fight:

Qre:us criticized the quality of the US team's play by talking about ball possession. You countered: "You can talk about time of possession all you want, but look at the scoreboard honey." Now, argument by one-liner is one of your typical moves, and it can work, but when people take you up on what you actually say, your arguments look pretty weak.

Ball possession is indicative of the quality of a team's play. The better team usually wins, but sometimes it loses. The winner, of course, is always determined by the score.

Scoring is also indicative of the quality of a team's play.

To a lower degree.

For example Korea's goal yesterday said nothing about Korea and everything about Russia's keeper. There are a lot of variables on any given goal, but possession by a team over time says something.

There is nothing wrong with going into cruise control and focusing on possession after establishing a lead (well maybe not for 89 minutes), but that's not what happened to the U.S. as Bradley and others consistently gave up possession in the middle third.

The US has never been a classical possession team. We've always had great keepers, and really athletic players that can take advantage of counter attack opportunities. That is reflective of the fact that pro soccer in the US doesn't pay as well as all our other pro sports and thus we don't put as much emphasis on training the best soccer players ever. Which is why we aren't one of the great global teams even though we have plenty of money to throw at it.

I approach the whole thing from how good we were before, and this time we played pretty good compared past performances. Surely we're not on a Germany, Italy, Brazil, Spain level, but we're taking big strides in the right direction.

So yea, for us, we played well. Of course if you want to compare us to countries where soccer is the dominant sport we don't stack up, but so what?

You should, it's such an uninspired game.

Compared to sports i more often follow (rugby and cricket) football is somewhat dull due to the lack of variation. But i guess for a more hardcore fans every kick, every turn, every pass and every dive is probably as exiting as a goal.

Actually even in sports i regularly follow there are so many things i am unaware of that hardcore obsessed fans notice in abundance. However once i am made aware of these aspects i learn to enjoy them naturally too.

So i guess every sport has its acquired tastes.

Since no one in this thread seems to be an expert on the subject i am totally comfortable reading about who is the cutest of them all.

However i would have a very hard time seeing anjela merkel (sorry too bored to google) on tv in the near future or watching porn without feeling embarassed thanks to you nico.
