When we go to the movies we are entranced by the content, the beautiful or compelling actors, and the story. But what we don't notice is how the medium is changing us. We think it is only the actors or the story that changes, when it is we who change. But we change without awareness, as though it is not happening.

And of course each medium changes us in a different way. For instance books change us differently than movies.

So is it possible the move our gaze from the content to the media itself? Is it possible to become aware of how we are changing and start to get the change we want?

I think you would find "Understanding Media", by Marshall McLuhan, very interesting.

He talks a lot about how different media encourage different modes of thought. The individualism of the West was created in large part by the triumph of the printed word. Reading, as a private, internal experience, encourages individuality and private reflection. Et cetera.

Just as Typology Central encourages etribalism with shared feeling.
