I'd like to see Tom Green star in a remake of El Topo written by Larry Cohen and directed by a pre-00s Peter Jackson. The original isn't strange enough, but, put into the right hands, I think this film could do some damage.

Sorry, can't do pre-00s Peter Jackson because he doesn't exist anymore. But speaking of that, why not a pre-00s Shyamalan instead?

My first pass....

"Watchmen" -- Sam Mendes
"Flatliners" -- David Fincher
(alternately, swap those two)

"The Uninvited" -- Brad Anderson
"The Dark Knight Rises" -- the real Christopher Nolan
"9" -- Guillermo del Toro
"The Human Centipede" -- David Lynch
"Highlander 2" -- Alex Proyas
"Prince of Darkness" -- Wes Craven
"Predator" -- Neil Marshall
"The Omen" -- Lars Von Trier

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, with Rosie O'Donnell as the demented ESFJ mother-in-law (formerly played by Ethel Merman); Morgan Freeman as Captain Culpeper...

Why stop there?

Raging Bull - Jane Campion
Schindler's List - Michael Bay
Bad Boys - Gus Van Sant
Casablanca - Paul Verhoeven
Taxi Driver - Ron Howard
Fatal Attraction - Michael Haneke

Actually, I think that last one would be pretty amazing.

Ron Howard would direct anything.

But how about:

 • Schindler's List, Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp as Oscar Schindler, Paul Reubens as Iztak Stern, and Helena Bonham Carter as Amon Goeth
 • Fatal Attraction, Catherine Hardwicke
 • Saving Private Ryan, Michael Bay
 • Earthquake, Roland Emmerich
 • Deliverance, Eli Roth
 • Brazil, Zack Snyder
 • Logan's Run, Paul Verhoeven (this would be brilliant, actually)
 • Glen or Glenda, Gus Van Sant or Joel Schumacher

Yes, I'm sure he could manage to make Taxi Driver into a heart warming tale.

[*]Schindler's List, Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp as Oscar Schindler, Paul Reubens as Iztak Stern, and Helena Bonham Carter as Amon Goeth
:happy0065:

My biggest question is, would Helena Bonham Carter's hair actually go that flat? Or would she re-interpret the role with crazy hair? Actually that could work...

[*]Saving Private Ryan, Michael Bay
*shudder*

[*]Deliverance, Eli Roth
Genius. :D I'm sure he could really extend those rape scenes and add some graphic mutilation to spice it up. Sadly, I don't think it's possible for him to stereotype Southerners as any more ignorant, sadistic, and in-bred than the original already does - but who knows, he may find a way.

When I'm old I'd like to see a less-action-y remake of The Lord of the Rings, so every generation will have one.

Now, look, we're getting goofy. (Aside from 21%'s suggestion. I'd actually like to see something with Tolkien that had a little more depth.)

A sadder, subtler, more realistic, more faithful and extremely long movie-series (by the time I'm old this will be an acceptable form of entertainment) with a huge budget and shot in New Zealand again please :wubbie:

*still have high hopes for the other two Hobbit films

Yay NZ! ;)

Do you know the filmed Hobbiton about a 20 minute drive from where I live? My Auntie and Uncle used to have a farm out that way too, that I spent my childhood running around. :)

Anyway back OT: it's hard to think of films to remake. IMO for the most part, you shouldn't really remake good films - only ones that had some good concepts but were lacking in the first place. So basically you're trying to come up with a list of unremarkable or forgettable films.

The Fountainhead, with Brad Pitt as Howard Roark (was played by Gary Cooper), and Angelina Jolie as Dominique Francon (was played by Patricia Neal). Warren Beatty will play Gail Wynand, and bologna will play Peter Keating.

Atlas Shrugged, with a bigger budget and real actors.
