The preliminary reviews are in. Apparently, Skyfall is the best Bond film yet -- even Oscar material -- which clearly means that the franchise is going into territory it doesn't belong. They are taking themselves way too seriously now. It's a shame, because Craig is such a great Bond. Why can't he just be an action hero like all the rest of them?

To make matters worse, apparently the gunbarrel sequence is at the end of the film again...
ON THE FRANCHISE'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY!!!!

Way to piss all over 50 years by giving the iconic sequence of Bond films the shaft once again. Okay, I understood why they did it in Casino Royale, kind of understood why they did it in Quantum of Solace, though that Bond outing wasn't really worth it. But now it sounds like they're making excuses to put the sequence everywhere except where it belongs.

And to make things even worse, the title sequence, from what I've read, is not gonna include dancing girls. My God. I don't care how good this movie is, it's ruined for me either way.

Anyway, I'll probably do more ranting about this when I see the actual movie.

I know. Such a shame.
I SHALL BE THERE TO WATCH THIS MOMENT OF TRIUMPH!!!!

*swoons over Daniel Craig*

All the reviews I've seen so far have all been either solidly positive or warm, glowy, "want to have your babies" positive. In fact, I've seen a few say that this movie is the best of the franchise; and more say that the movie takes the trappings of the material and reinvents the franchise.

Which either means I'm going to Bondgasm during the movie or I'm going to be bonecrushingly disappointed ala Prometheus. Toss a coin.

 I guess this isn't the Bond film I should start with, huh?

Why doesn't Daniel Craig ever get to make bad puns like all the rest of the Bonds?

...I hated that "pun" shit. It's not much more advanced than an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie.

I knew this was going to be the best Bond movie in ages.

And I'm glad Craig-Bond doesn't shoot off cutesy one-liners after he dispatches a baddie. He's a killer. A cold-blooded, ruthless killer. And he only seduces women when it serves some sort of objective (beyond getting laid, that is).

In the current run, my favorite scene was that brutal hotel fight in Quantum of Solace.
"Just die already," was the look Craig gave after stabbing the assailant in the neck and wrestling him to the ground.

Morbid black humor defeats cheap puns any day of the week.

Well, I'm still wary.... I remember TDKR and MI4 both getting really high marks on RT, and I just saw some reviewer today who said Skyfall was of "Nolan" excellence... so now I'm still going to wait and see.

And yet the cheap puns date back to the very first Connery film if anyone cares to remember.

Why, 50 years later, are people all of a sudden complaining about it?

Uh.... two of us here are complaining about it, and it's not even close to 50 years for me.

- When I was a kid, I liked it.
- When I became an adult, I became bored with it. The movies were just big jokes to me; the movies became their own cliches. I had stopped watching Bond movies right after License to Kill, I think... I barely saw any Brosnan versions, and didn't plan to return to the franchise.
- When the Craig version came out, I suddenly found Bond interesting again.

I'm not complaining. I like well-delivered puns.
But it wouldn't feel...right...in sequence with Craig's wolverine killer Bond.

I also hate the poster. To me, it's like it should be a female model on the front end of a Ferrari. It's as if they really are trying to make Bond gay.

Man...you really have it out for this movie, Uber.
You gonna whine when Bond sips a Heineken over his usual martini?

I think it's confirmed that he does drink martini, and this time he might give a damn whether it's shaken or stirred. And he does have the "Bond, James Bond" line, too. It was in one of the trailers.

I'm not really bothered by the martini scenes, I'm more bothered by the idea of putting the gun barrel sequence at the end of the movie instead of the beginning. It really makes no sense. The gun barrel is an iconic moment that draws you into the world of James Bond. It changes the feel from an average spy movie to a James Bond movie immediately. It was designed as an opener, but having it as a closer is just a silly artsy change that really has no purpose.

I understood the gun barrel placement in Casino Royale, and I thought it worked really well, but it's time to put it where it belongs again.

When I first heard the song, I thought it sounded a bit to obviously theme-songy to be played on the radio, what with the title of the film being right in there and all. I thought it was a good theme song, but not a very good song just to listen to. It's growing on me a bit, though.

And I hope there's a car chase in the film. There hasn't been one of those in a Bond movie for a while. That stupid one in Quantum of Solace doesn't count, and the one in Casino Royale was not a real car chase. I'm talking about a car chase with gadgets. We haven't seen that since 2002.
