I feel like I've answered this somewhere else.

I can't keep it to ten, really. Many of the ones already appearing here are movies I really really liked.

Hmm, I will instead choose to mention movies that are on my list that NO one else mentioned so far:

- Alien
- My Best Friend's Wedding
- Endless Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
- A Fish Called Wanda
- The Prestige
- Memento
- 28 Days Later
- The Ring
- A.I.
- The Sixth Sense

- Hara Kiri (Kobayashi)
- A Clockwork Orange and 2001: A Space Odyssey... (Kubrick flicks)
- Godfather I & II and Apocalypse Now (Coppola)
- Death of a Salesman (the Dustin Hoffman one... amazing...)
- The Rocky films (I - IV)

- Man Bites Dog (a French film)
- One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
- Mary Poppins
- The Jungle Book, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, The Sword and the Stone, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty (best of Disney! they're so GOOD!)

If you like these films... and you don't burn from touching books... you should read Rafael Sabatini... he was a very wonderful writer of classy adventure-romance potboilers... I say romance in the sense of "high adventure", though all of his novels have reasonably well-done love stories intertwined in the plot...

RAFAEL SABATINI:

An absolute original... you may recognize many of his titles ;) ... three of your favorite films are based on his work!!! Some of my favorite books by him include:

The Trampling of the Lilies (1906)

The Gates of Doom (1914)

The Sea Hawk (1915)

Scaramouche (1921)

Captain Blood (1922)

Fortune's Fool (1923)

The Carolinian (1924)

Bellarion the Fortunate (1926)

Scaramis (1936)

The Sword of Islam (1939)

Master-At-Arms (1940)

I'd start with Captain Blood and Scaramouche... also Master-At-Arms, Bellarion---, The Sea Hawk... ... the Carolinian is sweet... the rest are all great fun... very stylish writer...

A big boo-urns to Carlito's Way being so far down your list! :steam: Your top 20 or so are all great, though.

It's really not my kind of film. And I hate how much I'm supposed to like Al Pacino. DDA was good, though.

I have 8 1/2, The Godfather, and Wild Strawberries ready and waiting to be watched, I'm getting some headphones this weekend. I'm looking forward to those films, among others.

Have you seen Time of the Gypsies? That's one I'm certainly looking forward to. That and Mahanagar, but I don't know how I'm going to get hold of the latter.

I have this on DVD. I love Ray (his b+w films, anyway). Haven't seen it yet, though. Ooh, but I'm eager and looking forward to it.

Have you seen Mahanagar?

No, I haven't. When I worked at Hollywood Video in high school, I would get free rentals, so I went on a foreign film binge. I am working my way through Hollywood classics, '80s movies, documentaries, and new movies on Netflix right now, but I have a lot of European and Japanese stuff in the queue. I am one of those people with a full queue at all times. Just added Reds and Sleeping Beauty (saved for DVD release).
